Today,I received a beautiful Westinghouse stand mixer off ebay.I also got the cookbook and two westinghouse labled clear glass bowls. It runs great and I am surprised how sensitive the controls are! However,I never had one before and noticed the area arond the base where the beaters snap on,there is no cover and the works are exposed.Oil leaks a bit and I would be afraid to use it untill I find out about the cover that might be missing to keep oil from escaping and batter getting into its works.Any suggestions??

I've read where these are some really powerful mixers. I believe they have the infinite speed control, correct?

Beater cups

When the mixer sits unused the grease in the gears begins to separate. Getting the mixer warm will cause the oil seepage to stop. The sockets were always exposed. Earliest of the 20 speed mixer with the dial on the side had no beater caps at the point of the socket. Newer beaters did when the mixer changed to grey and white and so any drippage would be stopped there. The last of the run had beaters without a center post. Because of the extreme power of the machine the beaters are often bent trying to plow through hard butter or lumps of brown sugar.

Westinghouse Mixers

They were the first have permanently lubricated bearings. The mixer booklets supplied with their mixers tried to use one setting in most recipes. The glass juicer metal spout had a tilt feature to catch drips when changing glasses or pitchers between pieces of citrus fruit being juiced. The designs of their PTU were futuristic and interesting. The stands were easy to wipe clean. Beater design and ejection left something to be desired. The later "tapped field" portables had a very narrow speed selection low being like medium of most other portables, lots of splashing possible!
