Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

never installed?

If the dishwasher has never been installed, does this mean it has never been used? The solid jet-dry dispenser hanging on the upper rack tends to make me believe it may have never been installed, but it might have been used.....

vintage dishwasher

...its a BEAUTIFUL machine, and reminds me of the Hotpoint we had of similar vintage. I especially like the slant front. I think most dishwashers of that vintage made better dishrinsers and sterilizers than dishwashers. :-)

high amp draw

That means it would have to have a 20 amp circuit all to itself. That was rare in homes of that era, and probably an impediment to sales. I wonder how many people bought one, got it home, and discovered they weren't able to run it without blowing fuses or tripping breakers?

D&M

This is a D&M machine, the water still needed to be at least 140 degr.F.,and the cycle consisted of a spray from above with drain open to flush loose soil away and warm things up, a 10 minute wash, another spray from above, two rinses, and a 16.5 min.dry ,impeller now acting like a fan to blow heated air .The overhead sprays were from the fill valve, not pumped at those times, and,for efficient cleaning, most impeller machines required at least eight plates evenly spaced to deflect the water straight up to the top rack. This was the best impeller DW for one reason, the upper rack ,driven by water action made sure that all upper items got washed, even if some of the bottom rack had pots, big bowls, etc.By the way, the heating element would stay on thru the whole cycle, thus the water temp would go up slightly, but a 10 minute wash would only cause a 10 degree rise.

ROTO TRAY ROUNDUP

Hey John, would you be so kind as to post pics of some of the literature,as well as the instructions, etc. Who here remembers the ad "LOOK!COMPARE!SEE THE ROTO-TRAY WASH DISHES 3 WAYS CLEANER THAN BY HAND!"?

D&M stands for Design and Manufacturing Co.,they made dishwashers for MANY manufacturers, such as Admiral,Whirlpool-(in the 1950s),Sears Kenmore, Chambers, Kelvinator-1950s,American Kitchens Roto-Tray and Crosley Swirl-Clean Tray, and quite a few others.
