Freezer Temps- How Low Is Too Low?

When my Grandma went to Willow Valley, my Aunt and Uncle bought the home place, including the 20cf chest freezer. Grandpa had a huge garden, they never ate store bought fruit or veggies in the 50-odd years they lived there. They found a pack of lima beans from 1973, so 27 years old... still quite edible -or so I'm told!

A more accurate way to test temperatures it to place a thermometer in between food packages in the freezer or insert it directly into ice cream.

In the refrigerator, take the temperature of a glass of water on the middle shelf. The water should be there overnight. Or again, insert the thermometer into a condiment that has been in the refrigerator for an extended period of time an undisturbed.

The food temperatures are what are of importance. The air temps are too unstable.
