Wow...another one of these. Actually this is a 1955 model, but may have originally been purchased new late in 1954. This one has the older metal door latch, which is the model my mom had and she got it in December of 1954. My grandmother bought the same model about six months later and it had the newer plastic clip latch on the door. Too bad there aren't this many of the matching washer around.

Thank you for finding/disclosing all these treasures!!!

I'd be interested in learning who made the first automatic/mechanical dryer, what year that was, how many were sold and the layout of the components. And, of course how they evolved.

I was fascinated to see in another thread that a Whirpool dryer of approximatley the same era of the above-referenced Fridigaire treasure looks basically similar in the guts as today's 29" wide Whirlpool models...

But seriously folks,

It seems a shame so many of these items are coming up on Fleabay but just as many have no takers. I know, I know, when a seller will not ship or even pack for shipping it makes things tough to bid out of state/area. But have to face facts for it is a fact, items like these are going to be harder to come by as years get on. Well at least until appliance nuts like ourselves move on to the great appliance store in the sky.

My personal thought is with the housing market so hot,lots of older people are selling their homes to realise the gains. Prolly moving to smaller digs,and flushing out all these wonderful vintage appliances.

Back to the auction:

Seller says he "found" the item, wonder where he found it and what happened to the washer? Hope he's not leaving the dryer out in his driveway.

I will pick it up tomorrow. I really needed the motor out of this dryer. Seems a shame to scrap the rest, but what we won't do for parts.
