They did market their own cabinets during the late 40's
My grandmother (dad's mom) moved into a nice high-rise apartment in Houston in around 1962 or 1963. It had a GE kitchen in it with what I believe would be woodtone, it was a funky kinda pinkish brown shade. It had a GE range, fridge, and bow-tie impeller bow-tie dishwasher (which by the way didn't work right on the rinses after the wash--timer messsed up and wouldn't drain after one of those fills and refill, so she didn't use it). anyway, all the cabinets in the kitchen were metal and the same shade of the appliances. For the late 1950s or early 1960s, I imagine this was quite an upscale place. The laundry room had a speedQueen washer & dryer in it and I remember the hot wash also gave you a hot rinse.
