Hi all,

We bought a house a few years ago with a vintage kitchen containing a 1957 GE Liberator J-408 range. At the time there were 2 of 4 working burners, I was able to get that up to 3 but a few months ago two of those coils blew through the shielding. We're down to one burner and my wife is ready for a new stove.

The range looks great though and I'm hoping to keep at least part of it out of the landfill. Can anyone point me to someone that might want it, as a whole or partially? I'm willing to strip off what I can if someone wants it. All free and I'm willing to ship parts of it out if I'm reimbursed for shipping.

Attached is the brochure picture, ours is all white though. I can get pictures if there's any interest.

Thanks!

Jeff

Unfortunately we've already had work done to switch to gas, no going back now! Thanks for the offer though Turquoise.

I'll take some pictures tonight and put them up here.

Parts

He needed a thermostat.

Here are some pictures, I can take more specific ones if anyone wants them. These make it look grungier than it is - we haven't cleaned it recently so it would clean up well with some barkeep's friend or similar.

I'll check the service manual to see where the thermostat is, I could probably pull that out.

parts availability

I've see many parts for this particular model on Ebay for reasonable prices. The parts for the Sensi Temp unit (capillary tube type ) for this one, not so much. I have a very similar model to this, but the sense temp has been converted to a push button style burner. If someone wants to save this it doesn't look like that difficult a project, even if it's just being sold, as is. Good luck. Les.

Goatfarmer's right, I do need a thermostat for my new Stratolite! I also found that my storage drawer guide tracks have broken/chipped wheels so I could find a use for a couple of good used ones : )
Thanks! -Mike

Checked my parts manual and it shows different part #'s for the J408 model, mine's a 1955 J-402 model. They're close but one ends in MO/SO - not sure what that means

I'm going to post it on Craigslist locally too to see if anyone wants to save the whole thing. Otherwise I'll strip it down for parts in a few days.

Just an update on this range - I didn't get any interest locally so we're going to go ahead and order our new range. When it's a day or two out I'll strip everything I can off this one and have them take the chassis away. I'll then send out parts and store the leftovers for a year or two in case anyone else comes across this thread.

Parts

Hi, I am in need of the meat thermometer unit. There is a voltage ballast that is part of the meat thermometer system. I would like that as well. The knob is busted on mine. Does the timer operate? I might need that as well for parts. Thank you for making this available!

Marty

Just an update - we're still using this stove while the new one is ordered so I can't dismantle it yet. It looks like a few people need the same parts so I'll just be going first come first served based on who posted in this thread. I'll update again when we get a date on the delivery.

Sorry to hear that you're not going to keep the range Jeff, but as you're offering parts, I could really use an oven light switch (the one in the side of the oven frame).   Let me know!

The new range is arriving on 4/17 so I'll be parting this one out a day or two before. Stay tuned!

The new range is in place and the old one has been taken away. Before it left however I stripped almost everything that I could see. Here's the list I made of parts that people were looking for. Can each of you respond to let me know you still need the part and also help me identify exactly what you need? Everything's free but I'd appreciate not having to pay shipping unless it can fit in an envelope.

I did remove and keep the entire control panel so I still have anything that was in there.

mm1077 - Thermostat, also asked for storage drawer wheels but there were none that I could see. The drawers slid on a greased rail.

Marty - Meat thermometer, voltage ballast, timer, timer knobs

XRayTech - Both thermostats, oven knobs, small oven coils

TurquoiseDude - Oven light switch

sel8207 - Clock, automatic sense burner, any other extras
