I am hoping that someone can help me. I have just picked up a 1958 portable K A dishwasher and it is missing the handle to open it up. The mechanism is there and I can open it but I would like to find the handle. Does anyone have, or know of, a junker that I could buy the handle from? I appreciate any help that you experts can give!!

Hi Ray,

Thanks for any help that you may have!!! There is no plate on this unit with any info. All it says in the front is "Kitchen Aid Portable Dishwasher by Hobart" I hope that you can find it.

Thanks!
Rich

This a top opening portable, right? If it is, it should be a model KD2P. You have looked at the bottom under the shroud in back that hides the hoses and cord for the tag? Do you still have the bar that goes across the escutcheon between

(sorry about that. I had it centered when composing) or are you lacking that flat bar which would give you something to grab to lock or open the lid? Or, are you using a screwdriver to open the lid? The handle had a few pieces; the flat back bar with mounting places where the front and two short projections attached. We might have saved one from the 14 series KDI or KDS 14 models. Tom

I will post a picture of it tomorrow. It is the top loader but I could find no mfg info on it at all. Not even under the unit. Perhaps it is missing the shroud that you mention, Tom. The hoses are quite visible in the back though the cord isn't. It does have the flat bar so that I can open it. It appears that it is just missing the "handle" part that you would grab to turn. I think that the pictures will tell the story!! Thank you all, in advance, for your possible help !!! :-)

Hi Pete,

Sorry but it isn't the one. It is a straight bar handle. You can see it by going to eBay auction # 7149975655 to see an ad for this model. It shows the lid up and you can see the handle on the front of the lid. Thanks for trying :-)

Start

Just under the handle is a triangular white piece of plastic. It is labeled START and has an arrow pointing down*, right above the ergonomic depression to fit thumb or finger. That kicks the timer into the first increment.

* Does anyone remember "HABEBEKIN HABEBEKIN--POINTING DOWN"

Here's the picture. A little different angle. I tried to remove the top plastic cover over where the hoses and cord are, but it seems to be stuck pretty well (I did remove the screws, LOL)!

hi

hi perc, I have the same DW (posted above by bpetersxx) and I notice you even have the little detergent cup in the middle of the upper rack, which I don't have, good for you. This machine does a "purge-fill", the motor and filling start at the same time with the drain solenoid open, it purges about a minute to draw in hot water and remove any residual waste, then the drain solenoid closes and it starts to fill and wash, I think the was is about five to seven minutes with two (2-3min) rinses. Others like tomturbomatic probably know the exact cycle times. Then a forced air heated dry. Its a fairly quick cycle overall and it does a great job and is not to noisy either. Obviously just be careful when loading the lower rack as to not obstruct the water flow/spray to the upper rack(s). Best of luck with it.

yes Bpeter

yup, you posted pic of mine, how could I forgot those seafoam green walls in my folks' basement that I grew up with. LOL

Handle

Rich, I went to the appliance repair shop this morning. I left a picture of the dishwasher with my number. I told him it was model KD2P. I hope this is correct. He thinks he may be able to get it. I will let you know when I hear any news.

Take Care,

Ray

Hi Ray,

Thanks!!! Sorry I wasn't at home to get your call this morning :-( I am not sure that is the model number as I couldn't locate ANY numbers on it at all. I am relying on all of you experts :-) I hope that he has luck finding one. Thanks to all of you who are trying to help!
