1959 GE range problem

As you may remember a few months ago I picked up a yellow 1959 GE J-408 range.
I've been using and loving it.

Unfortunately the other day I went to make a meatloaf in the large oven, as the oven was preheating there was an electrical smell and white smoke started coming from the console around the oven controls.

I'm hoping someone may know what is causing this, and what needs done to repair it.

Check the ballast for the florescent light...they make white smoke when they go bad..

Thanks Jerry, I'll check that. I never considered it since it only happens when the oven is on
