Also, if I'm right, this was the first year that GM changed the washer lid hinge to open to the left (for some reason, I've always liked washer lids opening to the side instead of the back). Did they publish a reason why they made this change?

Side opening lids
The main reason for the side opening lid was to have a place to put the clothes during loading and unloading.Some could be pre treated with Wisk(Ring around the collar)or some other type of stain remover and if you wanted or needed to,you could take some of your stained items out while washing and use detergent or Octagon/Fells Naftha bar soap to rub and scrub the dirt out.Once thefinal spin stopped,you could seperate the clothes that you wanted to hang or line dry from those you wanted to dry in the dryer or go directly to your IronRite for flat pressing.

Beautiful machine Rick. I do personally perfer a back opening lid. It makes the machine more uniform looking. And to me it's out of the way although some disagree with me.

Hi! Ken, I'm not trying to do this wrongfully, but just to let you know and it does say on the Control Panels you Posted, that these Washers & Dryers were "GM" made and not "WCI" Models. These were way before "WCI" came unfortunately into the Frigidaire Pix.

I read it not as WCI (White Consolodated Industries) as much as (W)asher (C)ustom (I)mperial, as in WCI-59, etc.
Regardless, what beautiful, well designed panels. Today's machines should look so attractive!

I don't think I'd ever seen that model and I remember a lot of early 60's Frigidaires. 1960s were still unimatics, weren't they, and the last year before the clamshell control panel? Wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of that beauty. Good luck finding the transmission!

Hi Kelly, The transmition these came with was a Multimatic. (Mulitragic to many of us that have tried to repair them once they broke down) A Rollermatic can be used as a replacement for the Multimatic, so that will be the transmition that I will be installing in my 1960 C/I
These machines have very nice styling, and that is why this one deserves a restoration.

No idea who owns or owned the "Before" set, but the "After" set is mine, taken just after I had picked them up and repaired them........They are now in my basement laundry room......and certainly one of the most stylish sets that I own........

Thank you Patrick, its nice of you to respond......I love my washer sets! I need to update my profile, a lot on it has changed with a few deletions and many new additions.......
My 1960 WCI Frigidaire is a wonderful set, but was a great challenge to move out of a basement that had been built around them.......it took three of us 2 hrs to get them out. We took our time, with lots of muscle and lots of patience so as not to damage them. The dryer was especially tough because its larger than the washer, and just about as heavy. Ive seen some mint washers ruined because of negligence.....being "dropped" up the stairs or banged and dented from people who are inexperienced or just plain dumb about moving them......its a shame. So every time I look at the Frigidaire WCI set, I think of how nice they look with no dents or chips and how it was worth the struggle to keep them that way...........

Thanks for the background info on how you acquired the set and took such great care to protect them. I'm sure you come across some wonderful things in your line of work and I envy that. I am a Frigidaire fan first although I appreciate most all vintage brands. I look forward to seeing more of your finds as you come across them.
