1960'S RARE HOTPOINT STOVE / OVEN

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I have the pink version

I have the PANK one. Still researching the unit. I think these were experimental. My model number has RD in it. Do ya think it may mean "research and development" ? Those of you who know Hotpoint range model numbers may know better than I .
BTW, mine does not have the oven light switch on the door.

What I'm coming up with.

Again, I don't know for sure what all went on with these fun little ranges.
What I did find out was that during the 1950s (maybe 1960s too..) you could do up your house electrically with Hotpoint Appliances and designate the house a Hotpoint Home.
I read too that Custom Trend ranges were experimental. It was an article from a marketing book.
The house that I bought the range from had a kitchen straight out of 1958 Architectural Digest. The current owner, a fine young gent, was remodeling the kitchen to the current concept of modern. The range was still in use just prior to my visit.
He did state that the prior owner, an older lady who went into a nursing home, had mentioned that the house was a "show-house" of some sort and that the range was provided by the contractor as part of the deal.
This whole thing sort of smacks of the "Live Better Electrically" concept of the 1950s.
I don't know if any of my jibberish is ever going to amount to finding out what Hotpoint was concocting when they came up with Custom Trend.
What is also kinda weird is that the "Custom Trend" badge sticks up from the top and really gets in the way. It is designed to badge this range very obviously. I'm not upset about it but the point is that someone was trying to make a statement by means of this little billboard.
Oh, by the way, mine has a rotisserie motor but I am missing the rotisserie spit parts. Anyone got one? :)
If anyone knows anything about these things... add it in.

Don't get me wrong -lol

I can see it's usefulness and were it close to me and I had a use for it, I'd snatch it up in a second. It looks ideal for a second kitchen near a bar or pool area.

Hotpoint had all sorts of funky configurations in their range lines over the years, I've seen many odd birds over the years, seems lots of builders liked the Hotpoint cooking lines.

were it close to me and I had a use for it,

Since when has having a use for something neat and electric been the determining factor in your purchasing it? Please. That would be in your place with a label for stove--electric in Chinese so fast it would make your head swim. Maybe space would be a factor, but it could always be used as a counterweight to prevent a builtin dishwasher without a cabinet from tipping over when opened.

This is the first Hotpoint range I have seen with twin oven lamps. Looking thorugh that large window, it would give you the highway effect of oncoming traffic.

It's funny that it still uses the older clock/oven timer if it is supposed to be so modern. It's nice that the one for sale still has the porcelain color dots in the surface units. One of our neighbors had a Hotpoint range and I liked the colors.[this post was last edited: 4/19/2013-08:10]
