Night before last I had a load of clothes in the '62 Whirlpool - It went through the wash cycle fine - It drained about 3/4 of the water out and then it quit draining - The Motor was running - I advanced the timer to spin and it wouldn't spin. I thought that the belt must have broken. Yesterday after work I pulled the back off and the belt was in tact.  Turned the machine on and it drained out and went into the spin.  Did make a strange sound when it was spinning. I am at a loss for what might be wrong.  Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Model # LPA4540W0.

There could be a few reasons why the washer did not complete draining - a blocked or jammed pump is the first thing that comes to mind and would not be an unexpected failure in a '62 washer. The noise heard when spinning could be caused by an obstruction in the pump or a binding pump shaft.

I'm thrown by the machine not going into a spin when you manually dialled to that part of the cycle but you were able to get it to spin eventually if I am understanding correctly. My gut instinct is saying there could be a problem with the wig-wag assembly (either a bad contact or solenoid) however, I recall that you've had trouble with the rinse fill temperatures that led you to suspect a timer contact problem. There's a possibility a bad timer contact also is responsible for not spinning.

What happens when a cycle is run without a load of laundry? If the washer has trouble completing a full run with no load, my instincts are leaning toward a power problem. If there are issues spinning, I'd suggest testing the lid switch first, then wiring/continuity to the wig-wag solenoids.

Just my 2 cents from the owner of the Lady K that I could never seem to 'fix'...LOL

John as far as I know it is the original pump.  This is the machine I got from Gordon that Darrell rebuilt the timer.

Are pumps still available for this machine ???  Should I try and run it or just wait ???

LPA4540W0 is a 1966 model-year.  I have the parts diagrams in a set of old literature bought on eBay several years ago.

Four-port pump is listed as P/N 84848 or 87139 ... subs to several other numbers ... 350367.

Ebay

Try ebay too. Cant seem to get the link to work correctly here but I did a search on ebay and found 30 results for part # 350367.
