63 kenmores

Hi Kevin, I just finished sending you an email 5 minutes ago. I do have a couple extra motors from dryers like yours. If I find shipping isn't real high, maybe I can ship with your scrubber cap? I will let you know what I find. Congratulations, and best regards,Walt

colrs of kenmore and whirlpool appliances

I never could understand why Whirlpool and Kenmore major and small appliances had a noticeably different shade of available colors from the 50's thru the late 70's. Their version of coppertone, turquoise, pink, avacado green, and harvest gold were not matchable with any other brand of appliances. So,if you got a Kenmore washer or Whirlpool washer in coppertone and went and found a Norge or FRIGIDAIRE dryer to go with it,not only did the actual dryer match the washer in design but the color difference was imediately noticeable.I always thought that Whirlpool did that deliberately to make sure you stuck with their brand when replacing a range, dishwasher, refrigerator, compactor,or washer dryers. However, around 1976-77,they changed and had similar shades that enabled one to mix and match different brands.

Nice pair of machines Kevin, Mom had that exact washer in white, except hers was the suds saver model, that thing was a workhorse, she replaced the timer and the cold water inlet valve on it during the eight years we owned it, she got it at an auction along with a gas Match-All dryer for 80 bucks I think. The motor finally played out on it, had this site been around back in 87, I would have known we could have gotten a new motor for it. Hopefully, once I get into a house again, I can look for a set like this, I hate going to the washateria!!!

I just wanted to add... these are STUNNING, and you have great success in your finds, but I have a feeling you're a shaker when it comes to these things.

An awesome set it is! Congrats Kevin on your newest acquisition. They look great, and hopefully will run in flawless fashion with a little TLC.

The pictures are great too, and thanks for posting them. I love the full frontal photos of them side by side. I'm sure you can't wait to use them, and when you do, please post a video.

Have a good one,
James

But I have a question...

Hi Jonathan!

That was a good question, I actually had to go look at the machine! But sorry the answer is no. The wash/rinse temps are in black/red.

The wash/rinse temps, from left around to the right are....

H/C

H/W

C/C

W/W

Very nice set of '63 Kenmores. Also noticed the variation in the shades of turquoise as compared to the Maytags. Actually like the slightly bluer color use by Kenmore and Whirlpool better. Seems to me that even within the same brand, that as time went on changes were made to colors, with turquoise becoming slightly more blue. Have noticed this with GE, Frigidaire and Maytag. Seems like coppertone also got darker, even before it was renamed "coffee".

Kevin, you're really lighting up! I love this pair.
I always liked the color-coded dials. There was one in white that my neighbor had in the 70's, but a lower end version with a speckled basket & straight vane agitator. I used to make her do low water washes in it and get very wet. lol.
Lucky man! Beautiful machines.

Hey Kevin my mom got this same set when she married my dad i

but hers were white and the dryer was gas. We had the dryer until 1979 when it was repalced b a Whirlpool Imperial 70 and the washer lasted until 1989 at our lake house. The only difference between your washer and my moms was that my moms washer ahd the pregnant Roto Swirl like the one in your Pushbuton '59. As a matter of fact if you go to the collection page you will see an exact duplicate of my moms machine (right down to the pregnant Roto Swirl) in Gyrafoam's collection. His came from Gansky1 in Nebraska who found it at an estate sale house. Can we see a video of both the washer and dryer in action? PAT COFFEY

Oh and by the way......

If you turn the timer dial to the blank spot between the off setting after the W&W cycle and the 12 minute mark in the Normal cycle and then turn the machine on, the washer will agitate without any water as this is where the suds return mark would be on the dial if your machine was a suds saver. I used to do that with my mom's as a kid and it would drive her nuts...LOL...PAT COFFEY
