Yellow appliances

Yellow must have been a popular color in 1964. Remember Doris Day has yellow appliances in her kitchen in her and Rock Hudson's film, "Send Me No Flowers, which was also made in '64. "

color option

It's been quite a few years since I have seen it, but if I recall correctly the dishwasher in "Send Me No Flowers was a BOL General Electric, in yellow.

Barry, I think you are thinking of the Hudson/Day movie Pillow Talk whereby she ends up advertising Happy laundry detergent in her Whirlpool washer. The kitchen was a Frigidaire kitchen.

Bob, the movie you are mentioning is called "The Thrill of it All" from Universal (1963), and in addition to Doris, stars James Garner, Arlene Francis, and Edward Andrews. In "Pillow Talk", Doris plays an interior decorator

"Send Me No Flowers" yellow appliances

Hi Bob,

I am actually referring to "Send Me No flowers." It was the last Hudson/Day film made. Hudson is a hypochondriac who thinks he is going to die, so he is trying to find a suitable husband to take care his wife, Doris, when he departs this world.

Tony Randall is in this one also, and gives an awesome performance, and there is a small but hilarious role of a cemetery plot salesman played by Paul Lynde.

Anyway, Doris has a light, bright kitchen with all yellow appliances. I will have to try to find a copy of the film and see if I can ascertain the brand(s).

"Send Me No Flowers" yellow appliances (part II)

Found the film! At closer look, the dishwasher does look like it's a Frigidaire. Actually it looks to be the same model as the one in the FB ad I posted.

If you have the time, watch the film. It's classic/classy Doris Day all the way! I've attached the link.

Yellow appliances

Not sure why men have such an aversion to the pastel yellow appliances. I put a complete set of “64 GEs in my current house with dark walnut cabinets; it’s very striking. Hubby’s been transferred to NC so this set is going with the sale of the house since the new owners want them. I thinking turquoise this time. Anyone have any leads on a turquoise set?

This particular kitchen was about as far from dark walnut cabinets as it is possible to get and still have wood. It is not hating yellow appliances which, like most of the colors offered over the years, can look beautiful; it was the juxtaposition of the yellow oven door and the shade of wood that looked like it was reclaimed from the destruction of an outhouse. Maybe it was the lighting.
