1965 Aussie Kelvinator ORBITAL!

Hi Guys,

Here are pics of a 1965 "Leonard" (Kelvinator) Fully Automatic Orbital washer that is now mine. A lovely elderly couple responded to one of my adverts in Melbourne Victoria.

"Leonard" here in Oz were an offshoot of Kelvinator.

The seller told me the machine was still working when they put it in the shed 10 years ago and i see no reason why it wouldn't work again. The black agitator will be replaced with a brand new blue one that i picked up on my travels recently.

The pics have been taken on a disposable camera that i sent the seller, so the quality isn't the greatest. I am looking to drive to Melbourne over my xmas/new year break in my new station wagon to pick it up.

Great find there - and a perforated tub!

Is this a solid tub with a perforated liner? Fascinating!

Kelvinator!

What a Great find. I do remember hearing somewhere that the Euro Kelvinators or at least some of them were made with perf tubs. The size of the tub looks the same. I wonder if it still did all the overflowing as the solid tub did. I had also remembered hearing that these machines were made for a few years after they stopped making them here. Sad they didn't make a 1/18. I would love to see how differently this one worked.

Euro Kelvinators? Was there such a thing?
BTW, I am not aware that Australian-made Kelvinators were ever designed for or sold in Europe.

Hi Leon ,all that hard work is paying off, another classic machine for the collection, at first I thought you had lifted off the whole top off until I realised it was the gard to protect from all that splashy water action

Solid Tub

Gansky: Yes, it still has the solid tub,just with a perforated liner.

Peter: Yes...it still has the overflow rinse.

And for Mike...Thanks, they all seem to be coming my way at the moment and just for you.....here is a one page of the Wilkins Servis Mark 22 instruction manual: will email you the rest in a couple of days.

Wow!

What a find, what a find. Congrats - this will be the life of the party! Noticed there is a switch on the bottom side of the panel - wonder if there is a light in there? Also, the off balance reset is on the opposite side on the top of the late 50's Kelvinators from here in the states.

The perferated tub is quite a hoot - looking forward to hearing more about this amazing find! The boot looks good, but those clothes guards... and make sure to lube up that clutch!

Light? Spin Speed etc

Hey Ritchie: Spin speed is 520-550 rpm

Ben: There is no light in this machine: see attached front page of operating instructions and you'll see the out of balance reset switch on the left hand side.

Robert: you bet its a perforated liner....see attached cutaway.

Darrel: See attached pic of the new agitator the dark blue one will be replaced with.
