Hi there,

I wonder if anyone can help?

My daily driver is a 1965 Bendix LT washer dryer that has been performing beautifully for the last 9 years without a glitch , yesterday it made a strange noise upon spinning , i removed the back and one of the belts has began to fray, i am hoping that this is all that it is and not a gearbox fault , any way ill not know till i get a new belt. I had put this one on myself using a fan belt from an auto shop , but now i know so many experts i thought id ask you guys if replacements can be got, as the auto belt is a bit too wide for the pulley.

This is a UK machine based on its American cousin so i dont mind buying for USA with postage etc.

Has anyone worked on these in this country as i noticed in the workshop manual later models had an interupter switch on the gearbox to cut down the intermittent spin between rinses from 650 to 250 rpm ( which as a user it would be a good idea as it jumps from tumble 54 rpm to spin 650 in one go and when full of wet heavy towels or bedding you have to be on hand to ensure a smooth take off!) so could one be fitted as an after thought , can they still be got ?

I also thought id change the gearbox oil it currently has auto gbox transmission fluid in, the book says Shell Tellus 27 and i think a modern replacement is ISO AW 32 hydraulic , does anyone know where this may be sought ?

Thanks again

Richard.

Hi Richard.

Fingers crossed that you get the parts you need!
As you mention yourself, I am sure that if parts are unavailable over here, then they must be about over in the US.

Hopefully you will get some feedback from over the pond.

Glad you have the Bendix LT service manual - saves me getting confused by looking through mine. lol. I dont know these machines at all.
Though a couple resided with family and friends and were great to watch, I never saw inside of one.

Fingers crossed with the spare parts hunt and we will keep our eyes peeled for LT/LTA, LA and LS parts for you.

hi Richard, sorry to hear your having problems with your bendix, but I know you won't be going straight out to buy a new model Lol. Last year as part of a theatre set I was working on, I had to power up a large tread mill, requireing obtaining some large vee belts, I just thought I'd offer pass on their details in case they may be of use.

I literally just phoned up and ordered 2 vee belts paying on the visa card, you just need the basic measurements of the belt you require, they were easy and helpful to deal with, so hope they can be for you as well.

i hope your other appliances are working well and your ok yourself

oh forgot

to ask a favour, could you post a photo of the inside of the machine showing the transmission and generally what it's like with the back off, I'm aware of the bolt down slow speed machines but wondered how these may have been developed

thanks

Mathew (dont get it out specially only when you get to work on it)
