1965 Lady Kenmore Set

So I finally had a chance to get some pictures. I haven’t had enough time to wipe them down but here they are exactly as I received them. The washer is a 1965 model that was actually built in 1967.

So I pulled the wash basket today to get as much hard water stain off as possible to show that nice heavy white porcelain underneath. Still working on that but found some pretty deep cancer on the center post shaft. I guess that’ll be my first repair to the machine. Before removing the basket I put it on spin a couple of times and it’s quiet with no bearing knocking but that’s without a load. Once I get the basket cleaned to my satisfaction I’ll replace the pump and use it several times to see if everything works and if there are any water leaks. The results from this will determine my next move. Do I tear it down completely and rebuild it or wait for an issue to pop up? I’ll know more once I run it. Bendixmark I can’t wait to hear about that ‘73 kenmore you’ve got coming to you.
 
IMO - I’d pull the trans and outer tub; replace the doughnut and drain trap seal, clean up the trans and grease the cam bars, if you are reusing the drive make sure the pulley bearing has fresh oil. Even on machines that were whisper quiet the center post bearings have probably worn on the drive tube. A new set of bearings and seals are the assurance of not ruining an NOS drive tube. I’d also wash a few loads of heavy towels to test the agitator shaft drive spring inside the transmission. If it starts knocking or slips up in agitation the trans will need servicing or replace with one from an 80’s belt drive.

This also goes without saying - new belt and replace the pump while you have it torn down, and tend to rust issues with your favorite rust inhibitor paint.

Lady K Dryer here 1964 Vintage

I am currently using a lady Kenmore gas dryer model 800. Bulkhead mounted shaft. I rebuit it and serviced it myself. It was free knowing that it needed a timer, drum bearing and flange. I modified the bearing flange by gluing pieces of inner tube rubber to prevent the bearing from ceasing on the bulkhead shaft. I was lucky enough to get 2 spare igniters.
 
Congrats on getting your vintage Kenmore in good operating condition again. I’ve been very busy at work and have quite a backlog of vintage Kenmores that need to be rebuilt. I now have a 1971 Kenmore 70 set in avocado coming from Florida to Texas.
