Can anyone tell me how hard it is to get the water pump hoses water tight. I have stripped down the internal workins of this machine to replace sealants jubilee clips and renew pump seals. Waiting on a delivery before i do anymore. I have cleaned and conditioned all rubber hoses as this was stored in a shed for over a year. It was having a leak from the pump just a small one but a leak. After a look and poke about i see all the factory sealant had perished on a couple of the hoses. So just to bring it forward i am replacing the hose fasteners to jubilee clips and new sealant. Apart from the leak the machine works great. I am replacing the exit hose also as it has split due to being perished. Ran 2 boil washes to clean it and a modern washer cleaner for 30 or so minutes on boil, and used it for 5 big loads of washing. I am going to sand prime and paint it and add a me touch with stensils. I'll keep the hoovermatic logo plate and I need to replace the tin dial instructions as a small piece is missing from the empty tub side. Think i can remove the rest, clean and etch the alloy then paint in the dial diagram again straight onto the alloy then laquer a couple of times to seal?

The history of this machine as what i have been told. This machine was bought buy a guys mum and dad in 1966 he thinks. it had belts changed 8 or so years ago the guys mum passed away and his dad still continued to use the machine till he forgot he was filling the machine and went out. Yup he flooded the house. So his family put it out into the shed and have been doing his washing ever since this was over a year ago, nearing 2 years . So i purchared the machine for £25 as you see it needs a good scrub and some tlc but it works it did have a slight leak at the water pump hoses so i stripped the insides down cleaned and conditioned the hoses and removed the hoses from the tub motor and pump. I have ordered up some new jubilee clips the central heating sealing paste has arrived already so clips should see this water tight 100% I hope to paint it white and neon pink and stencil on it to make it fit into my kitchen After 2 boil washes and a service it cleaning kit run through it on boiling i tried it out i used my front loader to rise and spin till i get it steam cleaned inside the spinner section but i filled with hot water out the tap added some cleaner and spun the water away after 5 or so minutes but it needs a good top scrub and work out how to remove and clean the dials.i think they left water in them it seems quite crusted in the corners. and one of the dial plate screws is well wedged in so aquick spray of wd40 in order i think.
Well thank you,its getting stripped down for a paint job, I have started on the steam cleaning the spinner and knobs. I just ordered up the stencil, then I'll work out a day to strip all the paint off and re-etch it before painting it white and neon pink. I have people offering money fot it now but its not for sale. I have wanted one of these for years as i feel they clean better than a front loader. If it's not quite clean enough back on for a few more minutes and check again. This project should keep me busy a while as i only have 20 minutes here and half an hour there to work on it. waiting on a new hose and jubilee clips and it will be working leak free in no time.

you really got a good project on your hands. you're definitely going to have alot of fun making it more personal. i've been thinking about doing the same thing to mine, but i can't seem to find the time to sit down and do any of it!!!
