Greetings:

I wanted to share a picture of my Aunt's 1967 Frigidaire Custom Imperial double oven/range. They have had this since they built their split-level house in '66-'67. I always thought it was a really cool unit, and the upper oven with glass door looks like a microwave even though it isn't.

They have managed to keep it going for 42 years in spite of parts being a real problem now. My Aunt dreads ever having to replace it. The fat coil burners are expensive to replace and one has a temperature sensor built into it. Suprisingly, that one has not failed which is probably a lucky thing!

They had a matching '67 Frigidaire Custom Imperial dishwasher that lasted until 1980 or so and a close match '66 Frigidaire refrigerator that came with them from the previous house that lasted until 1990. Sadly, the '63 or so Kenmore model 70 washer and dryer they also brought with them are long gone now. I think the washer got replaced around '82 and the dryer lasted until about 1990. The current 1990 KitchenAid Superba dishwasher is still going strong.

Too bad they don't make anything like this range today.

Very nice! Greg Nunn gave me the 1956 model of this range.(through gregm) The quality is amazing! Almost kept it for myself after Gregm didn't want it. I gave it to my cousin, and she just loves it!

BTW: only one door has to be pulled to open, and the other door opens with it.

Oh hell!! It's too late! This should have been posted in the thread for the 1960 turquoise range!

At any rate, this is a nice classic range also, and it looks to be in MINT condition. <:

Mint condition, replacement parts and quality

My Aunt and Uncle really do keep it in nice condition in spite of 42 years of use. They are concerned that if they eventually have to replace it due to availability of replacement parts that nothing currently available is similar in design. I have not seen a modern range/double oven since microwave hoods have become popular.

Are parts really that hard to come by for these? The repair man that they use has had trouble locating parts in recent years. I know for instance that the burner coils are much thicker than others and can't be substituted. I will do all I can to help it stay alive by searching out the parts myself if need be. I assume that the design specifics for Frigidaire ranges died in 1980 or so with the WCI takeover from GM.

The fact that it has lasted so long certainly is a testament to its build quality. I can't imagine how many times those knobs and switches have been turned and pressed since it was new.
