1969 GE Appliances

Hi everyone,

I’m a new homeowner here and wanted to see what the interest in the following GE appliances are.
- Double oven/range with vent
- Stand up freezer
- Washer/Dryer
- Dishwasher

All appliances are avocado green and in good working condition. Also, the manual has the purchase date of June 13th 1969.

Wow!

That's quite a collection that you have there!  You aren't planning to keep them in use?  You're only missing a refrigerator.

 

That 40" range is beautiful; and that washer and dryer - gosh.

Why not update the rest of your new home, and just go with it in this room? Not only will the cabinets, and appliances outlast anything you can buy, but it won't cost you anything to keep them. If you do decide to get rid of them, i'm sure someone here will take them. I always find it crazy when people or a contractor buys a house and skips everything out on the curb. What a waste.

My mother had a whole house full that looked just like them, except for a 30" range.

Thanks for the responses! I'm definitely open to keeping them, just really don't know much about them.

Seems like they were built really well back then, but does anyone know how energy efficient they are? I guess to some degree it doesn't matter since I'd save $ by not having to buy new appliances.

I’ll take dependability over efficiency any day of the week. One of my favorite statements that is true and that I make on a regular basis.

Energy efficiency wasn't that big of a factor then. Getting the job done quickly and effectively was the goal. All of these could handle those tasks. Our GE Dishwasher of that era used approximately 11 gallons per cycle, and demanded 140 -160 water at the tap.

The filter flo washer wasn't known for water efficiency either, but boy could they wash a load of clothes.

The Range, actually was more efficient than a non-self clean model due to the thicker insulation.

I would be very happy to use this appliance pack.

Did anyone notice the washer has three agitation speeds?

LPDunkin/Loren, close-ups of the range, dishwasher, washer, and dryer control panels would be nice for the historical record.

I didn’t. Good eye Glenn. The picture is really blurry for me but after taking a second look you are correct. Above that it appears to read 3 speed washer with mini wash.

WA850D washer

What a beautiful suite of GE appliances! The washer is a 1968 WA850D or WA852D, a few notches down from TOL, but it did feature the multi speed clutch, set-up for three speed options on agitation and two speeds on spin. If either the gentle or medium agitation still work and change speeds compared to normal, the original clutch is intact.

As for energy consumption the washer does use a fair bit more water compared to other washers in 1968, and a lot more water than your typical front load washer today. The dryer would be just as efficient as most new dryers.
