1970 Lady Kenmore Suds Saver straight from Wood River IL

I have not jumped the fence yet but this was too good to pass up back at a sale this past August for $20 - pissed that the matching dryer sold before I got there. I sent this to Fredbert and them and Greg had to change their drawers. The man that owned this kept every piece of paper on it even down to hand drawing the cycle diagrams himself! However I did have my share of goofs with this before putting it in operation - the siphon break broke off while transporting it to my house and I replaced it with a standard angled drain piece (and learned that vacuum wands make a great lid stand.). One of the leveling feet was so rusted I ended up using one of my furniture floor pads as a replacement and to top it off I had no clue that these early suds savers did not have the option to turn suds off completely so the first run through it looked like an episode of Lucy with me and a trash can collecting suds valve water - my 90s Suds Saver 70 series that came with my house had the option to disable suds completely and I figured on this the only way Suds would be activated is if the dial was in the custom cycle and Suds. It's a great washer and love having a belt drive machine with a second rinse, but I'm still holding out for an electronic belt drive set with a gas dryer - I miss the Dual Action agitator and the larger capacity!

Suds Save Switch?

How is the [suds save]&#92[drain] function engaged? I didn't see a rocker switch on the console?

Per the OP it apparently always drains the wash water through the suds hose (except probably not on Perm Press).  Keep the stopper open on the laundry/storage tub if not desiring to save the water.  Return is by setting the timer to the Suds designation that's before the Enzyme Soak cycle (use Selective Dialing/Cancel button if necessary).

Needless to say the long drain hose that came with this was promptly attached and drains to the floor drain

Dave I think the Suds models were white only if I recall correctly, I don't have a Sears Catalog from 70 to back me up

Just White...

I just pulled out the 1970 catalog. Standard machines were available in:

 

White ($279.95),

Coppertone ($284.95),

Avocado ($284.95),

Tawny Gold ($284.95),

 

but S/S machines were White only ($289.95).

 

My (obvious) guess is Sears wanted to lure buyers away from the S/S feature with colors, especially now that memories of the water economy of Wringers was well in the past.

Kenmore Suds-Saver Washers In Colors

Even though the catalog often just listed SS Washers in white only I have seen many colored SS models that were factory made that way.

 

At various times you could also buy a kit to install a SS on many WP and KM machines which helped if you wanted one on a colored model or you already had the washer without the SS feature. But you could always tell if the SS had been added, if for no other reason the model # tag did not have a SS model # on it.

Well the thread may be for a kenmore washer from 1970 but i remember when my family repacle the washing machine back in 1988 when we replace the washing machine for the whirlpool in this picture we did not get the matching dryer at the time that model was avalble with a sud saver in both white and almond the model we own was the non sud saver

Black Kenmore

Can anyone tell me the model # to the Black Kenmore on picture 13?I want to learn a little more about that water saver feature and how it works in comparison to my old DD. Thanks!

It's a 110.26791691 and made in 1997 the week before my birthday, Dottie Horton (the lady that owned my home before me) bought it 3/9/98. I have never used the Suds feature on this even before I brought my KitchenAid DuaCycle Imperial to the basement and gave my mom the wash tub. I plan on keeping it if I can get one of you boys down here and reconfigure my plumbing so I can have that hooked up to my freestanding valves
