Classic Gorenje

Great restoration there, I like those bow fronted machines, whats the spin speed about 600rpm??, this machine has a few similarities to the wide bodied Hoover washing machine range, such as hinged top lid,2 strut / 4 hung spring suspension and similar vitreous enamel drum/ bearing unit!!

Its a stunner all restored, well done and looking forward to seeing more restorations, Mike

Ciao........ Not only the door, but all the machine look almost like your grandma's old Zanussi!! Zanussi produced this kind of washer (branded Rex, Naonis, Becchi, Nordton in Italy) in the middle 60's. The first series haven't the BIO Program button, only the spin button. At the end of 60's, Zanussi give the license to Gorenje for start the production of this machines. This Gorenje was really popular in Yugoslavia in the 70's. After few years, Gorenje give the license to produce this kind of washer to Polar. They only change the "look" in the years, but the machine was the same. I think this kind of washer was still in production during the 80's in East Europe, but the concept was Italian :-)

The machine next to it ......

Ciao :-)
Yeah, u r right!! The other machine in the pictures is a REX SL 124 of 1978. Produced by Zanussi. You know, in Italy the brand Zanussi was used only for the professional equipement (Zanussi professional) like stainless steel stove, fridge, oven, etc..... The REX SL 124 have the "Economy" button, for wash white fabrics at 60°C, at place of 90°C. I've changed the original plastic door with a serious glass door of an AEG, produced in Italy by Zanussi, at the same time.
Here is a picture.

Classic Gorenje

The spin speed is only 370 rpm!!!! About similarities with Hoover washer, I can't sy anything, 'cause I've never worked on a Hoover machine :-)
Ciao, Rik

Gorenje PEA

Thank you Riccardo for all your explanations, but you have forgot to say just one more thing :)))
We have found another similar machine that is a few years older. The Gorenje PEA.
Be in touch lads, you will see it soon.

Zanussi/Rex on the right

Thanks very much for posting the picture of the machine on the right. It is indeed the Zanussi I remember, and it amy even have been called a "Superluxe" also. If I remember correctly, there was another version as well, with two smaller buttons in the place of the large single button. There was a matching dishwasher too with, unusually, a lock more or less in the position of the large button which you turned through 180 degrees to release the door.

There was a matching dishwasher too ............

Yes, right! It was the REX M 812 (here in Italy). I owned it too, until the last year. The baskets inside wasn't so flixyble for the load, especially the upper one, where you can load only dishes and few glasses and cups. There was a button "intesive" for the Biological hot prewash, in place of normal cold prewash, by the way, the first program was 1,2 in case you push this intensive button or not. Under the main light, there were a transparent window, where you can see the rinse aid level.

Counter weights

It's interesting to see that the counter weights are installed on the sides of the cabinet. It's unusual. I've never seen this. The gorenje washer has the front part of the drum filled with steel as a counter weight, but it hase also a spin speed of only 370 rpm.

Gorenje PEA

Here is an old advertisement of the Gorenje PEA. I also found a machine like this at my workplace. But you will see, this one is in extraordinary shape.
