1972 Lady Kemore Washer

Hey everyone,
I finally scored my first washer, a 1972 Harvest Gold Lady Kenmore washer with a vari-flex agitator. Somebody had previously posted on the site, found on craigslist,with a picture, in Walnut Creek,CA. After a lot of call backs, I finally nailed the guy down to a time to pick it up. Its in beautiful condition, and will be posting pictures of it soon. it has a small leak around the bleach/fabric softner inlet where it enters the outer tub, and will need advice, as to how to seal it tight. The timer and knob are slightly off set to one another, and will need help to see it is possible to get them aligned correctly. Currently knob shows 12 minutes instead of 14, and when it is through, it shows almost all the way through Off. I am newbie, so advice is much appreaciated. By the next posting I will have pictures of this beauty. Oops forgot to say I got it for free. Yay!

Leaky dispenser hoses in Kenmore/Whirlpool machines are very common. Unfortunately, replacement hoses, which are the best fix, are not easy to find. I have found that Sears Parts Direct keeps some parts that Whirlpool / FSP has discontinued.

IF you can find a new hose for your machine, my sincere recommendation is to GET IT! The hose your machine needs is common only to standard capacity machines with the triple dispenser, so not a lot of models used it. Sears says part number 355028 is the original and that 357006 works as a substitute (I think that's the slightly longer large capacity version). Either way, if you can find one of those online or at Sears, get it. It will make a simple repair.

Getting the old hose out for re-use requires man-handling it through the side of the tub, but keeping it in good enough condition to re-seal. If you have a new one, you won't need to worry about the old one. Be careful of the triple dispenser - it needs to be removed for best access to the hose and mounting point, but can be brittle.

Adjust Timer Pointer

Hey there, you can adjust the timer knob very easily to try and line it up better. To adjust the pointer knob, hold the outer clear rim of the timer knob firmly, you should be able to then turn the chrome knob to the left and it should start to un-screw. Unscrew it all the way off and remove. You should see one or two screws which you can loosen and adjust the outer clear portion of the timer. Tighten everything back up and you should be fine. I know I had to do that with the my Kenmore 800 series machine as it was off too. Good Luck

Someone who has a Lady K with the Vari Flex agitator, post a video demonstrating how it works. I've never seen that before even when my Grandma had her 71.
