Hello everyone.

I have a 1972 Lady Kenmore Elite washing machine that needs a new part and I am wondering if anyone can help me - I use this machine regularly and love it! I want to keep it going for as long as I can.

The motor (and possibly the timer) is overheating and is possibly ready to go out. I am looking to replace (or possibly rebuild - can you even do that?) the motor but can't find the part (number 84973).

Any help folks in this forum could provide would be most appreciated.

Thanks!!

1972 Lady Kenmore....maybe?

Elite?.....I don't quite think so...

but yeah, there are places that will rebuild/rewind electrical motors for you.....roughly around 100.00+/-...

this should be a 3 speed if I am correct....

Bad Motor Or Timer Or Both

Look at the bottom of the motor and unplug the orange and the gray wires, the orange is medium speed and the gray wire is extra-low speed.

Then run the washer through the regular cottons-heavy cycle, if it runs ok without the motor overheating you have a bad timer, if it still overheats you have a bad motor.

Thanks very much

Thank you all for the advice. Will try removing the wires to determine if timer or motor is bad. I am wondering if the motor or timer is bad if they can be repaired?
