Rust Damage in outer tub and support below it.

Motor, transmission, controls, top, timer, basket, and Super Roto Swirl were washing clothes until the water on the concrete floor became an issue.

Anyone have a good outer tub / support ?

Or, would someone want to take on this machine ?

Without a good outer tub this is 1976 Kenmore Heavy Duty Washer Parts.

Can I get some feedback ?

Is there any interest in this 1976 Kenmore washer or parts or do you guys just scrap these units?

Do you need pictures to decide ?

That would be a belt-driven model and I would assume valuable for parts if no one steps forward with what you need to fix it.

Pictures could entice someone to take the machine off your hands otherwise.

Last Call.

Today was bulk trash day and I held off to try to preserve these parts. With the lack of response, I conclude that an outer tub with no rust does not exist and the fans of older belt drive HD washers have moved on.

If I am wrong, I will give it until next Wednesday before the next Thursday bulk trash day to provide more time for any interest that may exist.

If anyone knows of collectors of Vintage Kenmore Heavy Duty Washers that want parts, let them know this is last call for this Model 110.72625100 S/N C53046574 Located in South East PA.

I Will Post Pictures Later Today...

Too many new projects…

I love the machine but as I don’t have any parts or parts machines and already a bunch of new projects I suppose I should focus on those right now. If you were closer I would probably make an exception. I hope someone saves it from the scrap heap!

Thanks for trying to save this machine and posting all of the pictures. This machine is fixable if the outer tub is not majorly rusted along with the center post. From the looks of the rust on the base plate in the back it has been leaking water for a very long time. With a major rebuild of the drive system it could run for many years but it is a fairly large project to take on. I hope someone does contact you to save it. If it weren’t 2000 miles from me I would have picked it up already.

There are collectors who have an affinity for lower end machines like this.  It's a couple of notches above the most basic model, but would probably still have appeal.  I like this machine because it offers enough selections for most laundering needs.

If no one comes forward, your efforts to save the machine are admirable.  You tried.  If it ends up as a Prius, so be it.   You did what you could to prevent that outcome.  Thank you.

East Coast Collectors or Clubs?

Thanks Guys .

There must be a collector in the Mid Atlantic or North East US.

How can we find them ?

Clubs ?

You can always advertise what it is on Craigslist with the age and information. I would put a price of $50 on it to keep scrappers away. Then if you find someone interested you can do whatever you want price wise. This and other media avenues are the way I find the old machines.

Standard Capacity 1976 Kenmore Washer

Hi John, thanks for offering the machine here and posting all the pictures.

While this machine is restorable they are not all that rare and unless someone lives nearby it may not get saved.

If you list where in Pa you are it might get someone off the fence to come and ge it.

Thanks John L.

I assume no good outer tubs exist ...?

Thanks for all the ideas and feedback.

The machine is in West Chester, PA

Has anyone ever tried to repair a tub that is rusted and leaks ?

Absolutely! First you have to remove the inner tub to see how bad the outer tub is. Chances are it is leaking at the center tub seal. Removal of the outer tub will allow you to assess center post rot, replace the tub seal, repair the outer tub and seal any other leaks.

Standard Capacity 1976 Kenmore Washer

Hi John, Your machine is definitely repairable if you are handy and want to put the time in it.

If the outer tub is in really bad shape we may even have a better used one that will fit.

You also might want to find a donor machine and combine two machines depending what your goal is.

We would have about any parts you would need to restore this washer.

The parts from your machine are not worth much because there are still a lot of better condition machines out there,  and as vintage machine go this is not a rare machine.

I regularly see better WP-KM Belt Drive washers getting recycled, If you are sentimental about this washer it can be saved, If you just want a good vintage washer like this one it might be better to start with one in better condition.

In any event there is lots of help here if you want to restore a vintage WP or KM washer.

Thank You RepairGuy !

I did have the tub out (made a puller) and there was some rust around and under the lip of the tub seal. What looked more rusted and flaky/bubbled up with rust were the four mounting points that have rubber seals around the bolts/machine screws. That is where I stopped and put the basket back in...

I am thinking rusted fasteners and welding new steel in around the mounting holes etc.

I needed a running washer sooner than I could tackle that.

I bought a Speed Queen TC5003WN .

Now I have this great 76 Kenmore washer to fine a home for, that runs great but leaks and I didn't want it to become a Prius.
