1978 Frigidaire Jet Cone Washer Commercial

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

I remember that commercial back in 77-78. Maybe it was earlier? I was a kid then. Like the ratcheting of the original dual action, but we all know that that Kenmore was overloaded.

To think that in a couple of short years after this commercial the up and down action agitator would go bye bye forever.

GM in 2020: Frigidaire....who...?

"Put a Sock In It"

I remember that commercial vividly. I remember a lot of them from my childhood that decade! I remember the "sequel" in they dropped a sock into both of those washers to show how quickly it dissappeared to demonstrate its quick rollover.

Yes Robert posted that video some years ago and many of us voted he use the surgilator for that test. Even though that Surgilator took longer it DID roll over that huge load of jeans for those 1957 and 1958 standard capacity machines.

I never noticed the water level before in this commercial, but if you look closely at the Frigidaire 1-18 video it too has the water level set much lower than maximum.

Here is that video I did years ago with the same five pair of jeans...

Not only is Kenmore overloaded, it contains larger items making the load more difficult to turn over. Look at the Frigidaire....socks and a bunch of small items...

Come on now...

Is that a dual action agitator in 1978?

Ya know, each time I've seen that ad since it was new, I was baffled by a curious clicking, ticking noise coming from the KM. I've never heard that with any of the dozens of dual-actions I've come across. After this thread, I am guessing that with the machine's being overloaded and with not enough water, that's the dual-action tearing itself up, and after shooting was over, that thing was possibly wrecked completely?

Didn't the first DAAs have a distinct ratcheting sound though ? In the Frigidaire video you can hear that sound.

the first DAA had a different mechanism when it was first introduced....

it was a spring loaded up and down setup with big teeth to grip the auger, which caused the ratcheting action, and also the clicking sound, which Kenmore made known to everyone as 'hearing it in action'...

but people complained of the noise, as it sounded like it was broken.....so the newer 2 dog quieter version was created...

if I am correct on the first edition, the augers barrel was smooth compared to the replacement having ribs going straight down the barrel...

all in all, still quieter than the thumping noise of a 1-18...

Im impressed

I love my old Maytags but the quick water evacuation and spin speed impressed me. That thing dropped its water payload faster then a steam locomotive could drop its fire LOL
