Help Support :

Washer - LA-806

Dryer - LDE-808

A bit pricey IMO, but still $$ well spent compared to today's crap!

Ha!

The Poor Uninformed Misses...  Someone should buy these before she realizes her mistake...

Are those really 1979s? They look much older than that! Didn't know maytag held onto the lighted panel machines for that long.

Be warned!!!!!

1979

Crystal Lake

Make sure you don't go there on Friday the 13th

Keep an Eye out for JASON!.....lol

a beautiful set just the same......and you could try to haggle them down some....get the serial number and we could probably get the actual date of manufacture

This is a reasonable price for these.

I disagree. These machines are AT LEAST 31 years old and will need some TLC for proper operation and long term reliability, which will quickly add to the already high purchase price. It *may* be a good deal for one here in our little group who is both knowledgeable and capable of "freshening" them up. WAY overpriced for typical ignorant buyer!

And the new WP built MTs will last just as long as these did

Thanks, I needed good laugh!

You mean, they'll hold up like

This One

and

This One

quickly dried clothes

You're quite the comedian today. You mean, THAT design where the intake and exhaust are both located on the rear bulkhead, just a few inches apart? THAT design which will fry items in the back while leaving items up front (and in the middle for bulky items) nice and damp? I have lived with a KM dryer for 30 years now and personally know their severe weaknesses.

At least Maytag, along with just about every other manufacturer, had enough brains to incorporate intake/exhaust airflow designs that were polar opposite of the drum.

Matching Maytags

I want that set so frickin bad! lol. I hope it is around in a week when my tuition refund comes in. Hey Electronicontrl, I did not know there was another Maytag aficionado here in West Mich. Get in touch with me, I'd like to see your collection sometime; small world.

Curious question for you QSD (two actually)

So, as you've said prodingly several times before, you've lived (maybe "suffered" would be a better term) with your 1981 Kenmore dryer for 30 years.....if it's so bad, why keep suffering? I mean, you are clearly a man with the means to use something else, and you have plenty of MTs of several designs, so why keep using it?

Also, I know full-well that you're a very smart guy, so you are surely aware of how market forces work and how they apply to consumer products. When a product doesn't work or isn't accepted by consumers, it doesn't stay on the market long....right? One could look at the story of the MT Neptunes as a prefect example of market forces at work. So, employing that line of reasoning, why is it that a 1966 standard capacity WP/Kenmore dryer is for all intents and purposes mechanically nearly identical to a flat-back 5.9 cu. ft. dryer from 2011, 45 years later? If they didn't work or had "weaknesses" that "fry" clothes, they would be have been gone in about 7 years like your Neppies, no?

:-)

29" WP DRYERS AND DD AND THE NEW BD WP WASHERS

There is no evidence that the new MT TL washers and dryers that are being sold today won't outlast a pair of 1979 MTs, only time will tell. Just as with new cars reliably has never been better with new appliances. People are having far less service calls and keeping machines far longer than ever. I have been involved with servicing appliances longer than you [ Dan ] have been alive and you are far too young to be so silly.I often forget to remember that you are so young and have very little practical experance with other brands of washers & dryers other than MTs. Its like Ronald Reagan said we won't hold your youth and inexperience against you LOL.Almost everyone on this site agrees that the 29" WP dryer is the best performer ever and at least as many would put a WP built washer as their favorite machine as would put a MT helical drive washer as their favorite , Just remember who went out of business.

If I may....

The Neptune machines are actually good machines. In fact the Neptune dryer that I put in like a month or 2 ago drys clothes A LOT more evenly than any Whirlpool or Kenmore dryer I've had. It even has little cute lights that flicker on and off for dryness level. I will say that the Whirlpool and Kenmore dryers seem to be built better though.

The Neptune washers are very good too. I believe the early ones had issues with wax motors, motor control boards, etc. Otherwise they are great machines. Mom and dad Love the Commercial Neptune that I replaced the bearings and seals in. All it requires is loading the clothes, add soap, etc. And press ONE button. I actually like both these machines myself.

I do recall Whirlpool and Kenmore making a machine that was not received too well by consumers too, what was it called... oh yea..the Calypso. I have not had to good a experience with these machines either.

-Just my take(currently)...Ok (stepping back): QSD-Dan, John, Gordon, Keep arguing. lol

With all due respect...

John, over my years in the field (and I have a few...), I have found the Maytag laundry has held up very well compared to many others. I have had all the above in my laundry room (or in my shop) and have had a chance or three to listen and examine. Now, granted that all brands have their strengths AND weaknesses, the Maytag laundry ran quieter, lasted longer and was built heavier than most.

BUT... It's almost impossible to compare brand vs. brand, let alone machines within the same brand due to design or quality changes over the years. Comparing MT Dependable Care washers from the 50's with the later models manufactured just before discontinuing the line, comparing the Dependable Cares as a whole against the other Maycor platforms such as Amana, Norge/Magic Chef, Neptune, etc. can lead to possibly heated debates. And let's not even get into the belt driven vs. direct drive Whirlpool topic. How about asking the Frigidaire boys about the likes/dislikes between Rollermatics, WCI designs up thru to the Electrolux era laundry. Speaking of Frigidaire being bought out by Electrolux, Maytag did not 'go out of business'. It still exists as a division of...

All that being said, I do enjoy the healthy debates that will always go on here due to the passioned people here. Everyone will always still have their favorite brand, design, year and model and will defend it tooth and nail. I think the namecalling, cheapshots at age or level of education/other criteria can be done without on ALL sides. Sometimes I think there is a bit of mutual 'button pushing' between Dan and John that is enjoyed.

Ahhh, but maybe that's the fun of it...

By the way, out of all the machines I've encountered in my 20+ years in the fied, my MAH Neptunes have ruled the roost longest in my laundry room...
