1980's Maytag washer question

As many of you know, i have a cooking class at school and we have to wash the towels in it. And there is a 1980's Maytag A212 washer in the kitchen. I cant tell what year it is, the motor sounds VERY different than what other 1980's Maytags sound like. It has the turqoiuse 3 hole Powerfin agitator. I know for absolute sure that its not a 1990's model because it is a long stroke washer, not the fast short stroke 1990's model. It isnt a helical drive either? Where can I find the model year on it?

first of all, the AMP which had a different powertrain, going way back from the 50's.....not sure of exact dates, but it was the first Automatic from Maytag, and actually a solid tub surrounding a perforated drum....

second, all Maytags, wether Pitman drive, or Orbital drive were 'Helical Drive'...

although not that old, it is possible of belt slippage, or tranny wear can cause different sounds than what your used to.....a worn bearing in the pump can also cause strange sounds...for the most part, Maytags were very silent compared to many machines out there....

to pinpoint the year of any machine, we would need model and serial numbers...

The A212 was manufactured from sometime in 1985 until sometime in 1990.  The Long stroke transmission with a Power Fin agitator was used on these machines until July of 1989 when the short stroke transmission (that Maytag itself calls the "Orbital Transmission" in its service literature) was introduced along with the redesigned agitator.
