1980's Whirlpool Kenmore 665.1577580 Door Clip #301857

Hello folks,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. My mother's dishwasher (WLP made Kenmore as noted above) had a lower clip break off the door (see photos.

From the parts list, this is a 301857 and it appears that it "cradles" the pin in the door as you open it to keep it in line.

Does anyone have any available from perhaps a good parts machine or perhaps even new, or perhaps you have a solution that I can use to fix this? Please see the photos.

Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks!

Missing Door Hinge Clip

You do not need this part, if the door hinge pin came out of the hinge cradle just lift the door and reinsert the hinge pin, then do not lift the door upward as you open it and it will stay in place nicely.

I did just that---curiously, why do they have it? Is it an assembly thing at the factory? I'll make sure my mother is careful when she opens and closes the door.

Missing Door Hinge Clip

The clip was there in case someone pulled or lifted up on the door when it was open, but if the DW is installed and used normally they really are not necessary, glad you got it working for your Mom.

Thanks a lot for the information. I checked with a friend of mine who's been in the repair business for over 30 years and he's never changed these either.

I like the older machines, but as we all find out, getting parts can be a challenge. I just changed the heater element with a Whirlpool NOS one off Amazon.

Of course, once I find and install one, wouldn't you know that someone has four of them now on Ebay. LOL. When I was looking, there weren't many out there. .

It was part #675489, which superseded a bunch of the earlier numbers.

Question----Odd Issue

Same machine, I've been noticing for a while that if you're sitting there watching the machine work, it seems that it has "stalled" in a cycle (not going into wash for example). Then, you open and close the door and it starts to work.

It's not that it DOESN'T work, but it seems that it's taking longer than it used to do to complete a cycle. It seems that virtually every time if you open and close the door, it will start the cycle, doing nothing else but opening and closing the door. I've tried to push on the door when this happens to see if it's a door switch issue, but it doesn't seem to help. Opening and closing the door most of the time will.

The fill valve was replaced in 1994 with a new WLP part at the time because I left the garage door open on a 2 degree winter day overnight (kitchen is over the garage) and the valve froze. I changed the valve and it's been good since.

Would you change the fill valve in these cases? Ebay sellers among others have good USA made WLP units (not the newer imported ones) at $20 and under with shipping.

Any thoughts are appreciated...
