1982 maytags low miles

These beauties I picked up last week and are wonderful machines…Not top of the line, but were hardly used and scratch free…maybe only used in a winter home in tucson az…The dials are like new and the paint has a shine of a new car…Almond is dating them to the early 80s …They are belt drive and sound great…I replaced a new best buy stackable washer dryer which I hated after one year….What a waste of 1400 dollars. I could have purchased at least two sets of vintage machines. I wanted an early seventies may tag w/d but no luck in my part of the country…..Everything in ariz is new new new…anything old goes to mexico and will never be seen again…mk

I think the photo is reversed as the cycle dial is definitely on the right, as mine are. They are the same vintage as my almond set I have had over 31 years. They still work just fine without one cent ever spent on repairs. These are definitely as close to top of the line if not for that year.

According to my original Maytag brochure, the dryer is definitely a top of the line D810, and the washer is one step down from the top model as an A710.

I love my new babies the dryer has a light and purrs like a quiet kitten and here is a picture of my bleach bottle collection.. the washer is clean and replaced a new stackable best buy…….

wondering what year this is

I started to collect washers and dryers after I picked this machine up for my sister…She wanted one for 40 years …She was so happy she washed everything by hand in the old tub before..I painted it and went threw it somewhat. .We have a problem with the adgitator comming off occasionally…any ideas its a plastic blue agitator..

Age of your machine

Hi Mark,

Post the serial number stamped into the side of your machine, that can be decoded and it will indicate the age.

As for the agitator lifting off the shaft, there is a rubber "O" ring that slips over the shaft and holds the agitator in place. They are still made and are easy to obtain. Do not attempt to hammer down on the agitator to keep it in position: it won't work and you will damage the crown. Also, don't use an adhesive. The agitator needs to come out for cleaning.

I will try to dig up the part number for the O ring, it's changed numbers a few times.

I was told that i had originally a westinghouse washer and dryer in the 1940s.. They were the first slant front washer and dryer I figure ….before that i have original washer which was a wringer like an art deco easy or something I just have the tub and legs…Movie star betty hutton lived in my house and before her the last empress of china…so they had the best…this information came from the caretaker before I new what fun washers are…The serial number on the maytags is july or august of 1982 I was told…..thanks again for everyones help…I started collecting to redo my house to original but only found a 1948 westinghouse.washer.and since than I'm hooked …Love this site…Ps i know im missing the wringer washer..thanks….scoots... Below is the house in tucson which had the first westinghouse slant fronts..also some more trivia I went to school in the westinghouse mansion also in tucson not far from me...
