I have a 1983 Whirlpool Imperial 70 dryer that has worked well for the last 31 years. What it does now, is it stops part way through the drying cycle, probably 3-4 times per load.

It seems like the timer switch has some dead spots, because if you touch it and move it ever so slightly to the right, it'll start again. The places where it stops also seem to be consistent. There's no delay to start up, other than the time it takes to tweak the knob a bit, whether I have to get up from the other room, or I'm standing right there. So I don't belive it is a thermal switch. And otherwise, the dryer works great.

The model number of the dryer is LE7810XPW0.

Am I missing something else that could be causing this?

Thank you,
Chris

Sounds like a loose motor contact in the timer. The timer would need to be replaced. Whirlpool was ALWAYS a great dryer for the money! When you move the timer knob, do you have to press the start button again, or does it start without pressing the start button. May also be the push to start button.
