Update, the tank drum is rotted beyond repair. 42years of use, sad to say good bye
 
Rusted out outer tub

I figured the outer tub would be in pretty bad shape from your pictures of the leaking around the outlet area.

This is the problem with restoring, older washing, machines, dishwashers, etc. they just didn’t use nearly as good as materials back then as they do now.

Machines being built today will be able to be easily restored if someone wants to when they’re 40 years old.

We restored a 1981 Direct Dr., Whirlpool washer about 10 years ago and of course the plastic tub was in perfect shape so it was an easy restoration.

We had wanted to restore this first direct drive model and it’s in the museum where it can be used occasionally.

You probably could find a decent outer tub if you really wanted to restore this washer, but it becomes quite a project as you can tell.
