I have a daily 1985 Magic Chef microwave that works great although I think its going to need a magnetron soon because I smell something hot and electrical after 10 minutes use. Im on the hunt for one as we speak. My question is though that the paint or coating inside the cooking area at the top is peeling away leaving metal exposed. Is that a special coating and is it still safe to use the oven like that? I never worry about pieces falling in my food because all gets covered when in use. Do they sell the paint for it? I hate to toss it because its a solid unit made here and it has the old school drop down oven door like the old toaster ovens did.

Peeling paint inside a microwave oven

A microwave oven is safe to use even with peeling paint and rust inside until you have a hole larger than a quarter of an inch through the metal.

If you want to touch up the paint or repaint, it use some sort of solvent-based spray paint, etc. it really doesn’t matter the type.

I don’t think I ever saw a magic chef oven with a drop-down door. It would be neat if you could post a picture of it, it should be easy to find a magnetron if you want to replace that.
