1989, Kitchen-Aid Washer and Dryer. All Push-button, Electro-Mechanical operated set.
I have had this set about two years now. The washer and dryer were supposedly professionally rebuilt by an area appliance store prior to my purchasing them. They have worked without fail for us doing 8-10 loads a week until recently. The washer has a few issues that should be addressed, and needs some TLC form a collector that will appreciate it.
The GAS dryer is in my opinion the best dryer I've ever had. It works beautifully, and if it wasn't for the fact that I hate mis-matched sets, I would have kept it. It has way more cycles than I ever used, but the main auto-dry pushbutton selection works perfect and on-point. The dryer door sometimes needs a good pull to open it, and it may need a simple adjustment. But other than that, it works swell. The light on the control panel works fine as you can see. Im unsure of the model/serial number, but can get that at request.
The washer in my opinion was a good one. Not great but good. It washed large loads well, and handled everything we ever threw in it. It was NEVER abused I would like to make clear. BUt it WAS used to it's fullest tho. Over time, it began to leak as it filled up. Up to a gallon or more just before it was unhooked and replaced. It ONLY leaked when it was filling. Other than that I never had a complaint about it. We had two service- people come and look at it. The first one said to junk it, and tried to sell us new Speed Queens, which I would have loved to do, had we been made of money. He said that they did NOT make parts for it anymore, and so as he said that on the phone I told him to button it back up and beat it. I may not know how to work on it,NOR do i have the time, but I knew that was a BOLD faced lie. So we called a SECOND repair tech person. This guy told me that it was a main tub seal, and the drive coupler was bad. The second part maybe, but I never heard any strange sounds from it,and it agitated and spun JUST fine. The tub seal was a little hard to swallow tho, as it ONLY leaked AS IT FILLED. If the tub seal was shot as he said, I assume it would have leaked ALL THE WAY thru the cycle. His estimate of $250.00 kinda made me take a breath, but just as I called, to say FIX IT, I had scored a set of rebuilt late 80's helical-drive Maytags, and I just decided that this set needs to be either fixed and used by someone who loves them in a less used capacity, or sold to a collector for posterity. These are BOTH very nice machines...
I am asking $200 dollars for the set, and for now I'm kinda firm on that. I have NOT listed these yet on Craigslist, but will in the month If I get no hits. I know that a a gas dryer is worth at LEAST a hundred, and the washer if fixed correctly is worth at least that too. Im willing if there is any interest to discuss $$ options, but probably wont move much below $175.00~ so...
The set is located in Whitmore Lake Michigan, and is about 40 minutes from Detroit, an hour from Toledo, and about 2 hrs give or take from Indiana! They are in the basement, but we have a doorwall/ slider they can be taken out of from the basement and up to the driveway. You will want to bring help and a handcart.
If you are interested leave me a message here. YOu may also email me at [email protected], or can call my cell at 734-548-2509, and ask for Chad. I reallly hope that one of you wants the set, but if no interest, then It will go to craigslist to live out its final days clenaing baby mama diapers....So..
There are pics here of the set...
