I have a 1990 Maytag Model A882 with a couple of issues I may want to look into. It works great, however make quite a bit of noise when agitating, like a belt maybe. The second issue is that it has gotten a stain on several large items that I have washed. It looks like grease, but I can't tell. This has only happened to my duvet cover and a flannel sheet, never to clothes. I'm thinking that they are wrapping around the base of the agitator and there is something down there causing it. Any of you experts have an idea?

there is something down there causing it.

The agitator on that model should remove easily by backing out the set screw on the bottom side of the agitator and lifting straight up.

Not a common problem on Dependable Care washers but I guess it's possible for transmission oil to get into the wash tub.

Thanks For the advice

Thanks to the repliers. It does have the Tourquoise agitator, I will look for the set screw and pop it off. Will probably have more questions after that.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the set screw is located near the bottom of the agitator in line with the small hole in the agitator skirt.  It's hard to see and you'll have to feel around for it.
