My friend has got a Kenmore washer model 110.26834692. The timer is acting up. When you start a cycle, sometimes the machine does not start. All you hear is the timer motor. If you push on the outer ring it will start up. My question is, is this timer serviceable? I have serviced the old Mallory type timers, but know that the Singer timers are not really serviceable. Please let me know what you folks think! Thank you!!!

Delmer -

I was hoping someone with more experience on this topic would have offered a suggestion by now, but I do have a little to offer, so here goes....

The timer appears to be one of the newer, plastic bodied units, which I know little about. I would guess based on how things have developed in appliances, this unit is designed not to be serviceable.

The earlier metal bodied timers were not sponsored by Whirlpool to be serviceable, but outside companies did so, and I have even successfully spliced timers together from several donors, etc.

To learn more, I think I would open the control panel on the machine and look at the timer and see if you think the timer can be opened without breaking the case, etc. If so, you may be able to work on it.

I checked ebay, as I've found some good bargains there. Currently there is a timer for your friend's machine for $50.00 that may be the simplest solution to the problem. If that's too pricey, ebay can be set to inform you each time an item is listed that fits what you're looking for, and maybe you'll get a timer even cheaper.

Good luck!

Gordon
