Not sure if this has been posted before, but I like the style and some aspects of the machine featured. I am not a fan of the plastic tub, lid lock, lack of brake, indexing tub and cheapened components but the rest still beats most of what you will find today. I actually like the style of control panel and side opening lid. I wouldn't mind this style being applied to a Maytag of Whirlpool product.

I've see it before. I wish we could see the GE sails training video. I want to know what they actually did unlike the stupid commercials lied to us about.

It’s interesting that they ‘simulated 40 years of use’, meanwhile you don’t see ANY Kelvinator machines around from that era.

There’s literally Maytags and Whirlpools from that era which are still around 40 years later.

Very cool video ! Would like one from this era in collection, but these were nowhere near as common as the usual brands of the time-hardly saw these at the dump even back in '82-83, but did find one about 1980 that was partly disassembled and drug remains home for exam. I think this franklin design was made from about 1973-89 before replaced with larger capacity "Horizon 2000" design that was similar underneath. a couple good points of these Franklin washers include a good face type main seal, good clutch belt, milkstool suspension, all metal transmission,6-way wash action :) and more. Distinctive sound from these tough but cheaply made washers... I have a 1989 with angel wing 10 vane agitator in collection and should rotate into use.

I remember the sounds the Frigidaire/Westinghouse counterparts made during agitation.

the horizon 2000 design has a turbine pump on top of the motor, then changed to electric pump sometime in the mid-1990s. The pump as seen in the design in the video makes a water thrashing sound while running in reverse direction. Iron gears and external helix spring one-way clutch add to the sound mix.

Can you take pictures of your 1989 machine? I am interested in it. The control panel, basket and agitator.

Can anybody report on the cleaning ability and reliability of Kelvinator. I do not remember any commercials or ads for these machines. I will assume they had a small percentage of the market., Yet in some old TV shows you would see a Kelvinator Fridge which I assumed was the primary appliance. It is a great video, nice tear down of the machine and the assembly line.

I had the opportunity to work for a Florida dealer that sold the Gibson version. We also had GE and Whirlpool. The Gibson WCI was brought in to offer a lower priced line. The washers were not bad. The bimetal lid lock was a trouble spot that I recall. Otherwise, they seemed to be fine. Not sure about their longevity.

The clothes dryers were disgraceful. They had serious problems with the lint filter, blower, air duct drums seals and drum rollers. Most of them didn't make it out of the 1st year of use without major failure. While the other brands just worked.

Where was Frigidaire positioned?

# 11,chet, washer is trapped in storage at the moment ,a 1984 24" DD on one side, a leaker 1986 BD on the other, a '59 visimatic wringer and '95 Capri 24" DD one knob also nearby...:) So basic description: console-3 knobs, pull to start timer, two chrome knobs. backsplash is dark gray with light gray horizontal accent stripes for up to date circa 1987 look. Agitator is white,5 straight vanes at base,5 rounded profile vanes up on agitator post. rollover improves when basket held from indexing and pretty decent stroke, more than 180* as i recall. Basket is thick white plastic. spin speed is around 520 or so-about same as a BD, but smaller basket diameter-so lower extraction g-force. Gets right up to speed with the excellent clutch belt setup.
