1995 and later GE washers

I recently read an article about the new style GE washers and dryers that came out in 1995. I remember reading about how they had to redo the entire laundry lineup because there was not enough production. I also read where it says that the new laundry may have save Appliance Park. Save the park campaign... how about saving money to completely reinvent the filter-flo, not make the post filter-flo! GE claimed to use a steel drive transmission. I've noticed that they decided to use polypropylene baskets in their washers and have a quiet-flo fill valve. They also claimed to use a heavy-duty 1/2 horsepower that use copper windings. They claimed to have them available in one-speed and two-speed with a single-speed clutch. I've noticed that GE washers were put on four sets of shocks with a fluid-filled balance ring and dubbed it their exclusive auto-balance system. I guess it was their exclusive at the time. About the transmission, they didn't say whether it was the same type of transmission oil they've used in their filter-flo design or a completely different type. Their agitation was rated at 154 strokes a minute, according to GE. I have a GE post-filter-flo from 2000 with the GentlePower agitator. It shook during agitation like it was going to break apart. Does anybody know what type of oil is used in the post filter-flo GE models. Does the gear oil smell the same or completely different. I've read the description of it smelling like being in an old garage. If anybody has had experience with the post filter-flo models, please let me know.

I currently have a 1996 GE apart that seemed to have a trans problem. When I opened up the trans I found the snap ring that retained the lower shaft had broken. The lube in the trans smelled exactly like gear 90 to me.

The one my sis gave me with a bad trans smelled like that to me too. I just got a NEW trans on ebay, installed it, and sold it.

Thanks. That's what I thought. It smelled exactly the same as the filter-flo transmission. It seems to be the only memory I'll have of the filter-flo.
