WoW!

Panasonic has been known to make among the longest lasting products arouhd, but plasma's usually don't last that long.
I think our Philips 37 inch LCD is about 15 years old.

I'm pretty happy with my Samsung UN50TU7000 "Crystal UHD" 50" TV. The picture quality is, IMHO, excellent, as is the sound. There may be other more pricey versions available from Samsung, with better performance in brightly lit rooms, but I'm more than satisfied with this unit in my living room. I got it a couple three years ago and have no complaints, other than that the remote doesn't include a backlight. Oh well, that's why I have a floor lamp next to the recliner!

Plasma looks great

Bought my Panasonic Plasma in 2010 at Costco. I estimate that there are only 40 hours of viewing time on the thing. Once I got it, went to the trouble of running coax through the attic to the bedroom, only to find I wasn't that interested in watching broadcast TV. Hooked up a spare Roku a few years later, only to not watch it at all. Now it just collects dust. I plugged it in today and it still displays an excellent picture. The only glitch is the ethernet refuses to pull an IP from my router. I don't know if a fault has developed or it's because the Viera Cast service was discontinued by Panasonic. It was never that great in the first place.

My panel is too old to have network features.  It's only a display, no tuner, has composite, S-video, component, PC.  No SPDIF, TosLink, HDMI, ethernet, or USB.  L-R audio inputs/outputs and an onboard amplifier with accessory L-R speaker connectors (which I've never used).

Cumulative Power On Time

I found the service manual for my plasma TV, put the TV in Service Mode, and retrieved the Power On Time data. 526 hours and 2715 power cycles. Also took some pictures of various Blu-ray movies. Still impressive and looks plasma great.

The Visio flat panel I have hanging over the fireplace must be a plasma unit. It went out a few years ago, so I replaced it with a much larger Samsung LED unit. The Samsung works fine. I left the Vizio up on the wall, The Samsung sits on a table in front of the fireplace. Eventually I'll get around to taking the Vizio down and putting the Samsung up in its place.

Actually I'm not 100% sure the Vizio is a plasma unit... but seems more than likely it is.

And so it goes.

You ever turn that damn thing on? ;)

It's crazy how cheap TV's are these days, especially considering size and options. Stopped watching all TV (movies included) back in 2012 so it's a moot point in my circumstance but considering buying one for the computer and just hanging it on the wall...at least for tracking my stocks in real time. It would allow be to get rid of at least 5 other monitors on the desk.

After the fire have not been able to replace the AV equipment I used to have-they don't have it-don't know when the place can get it and don't know when they can delivor.Plus my charge card won't let me charge the outfit I did want to buy at the time.So I just said TO HECK WITH IT!!!!Just watch off YouTube on the IPad.There is only ONE supplier inn my town.So far doing fine without a TV or the other equipment.Of course nothing on TV worth watching at this stage and don't want to pay a satellite or cable broadcaster to bring their TRASH into my place.

90% of my tv viewing is on Youtube Premium. It's well worth the $10 or so bucks a month to never have ads. I'd ditch the cable in a heartbeat but the other half still watches regular tv.

how do you set up an ad-blocker for youtube on your tv?

Not sure about that one, I watch everything from my computer.

I would imagine that if you have chosen to pay u-tube ad blocker and have it set up on your computer, that when you sign in on your tv with your account info that the ad blocker would transfer to the tv, same as your computer. The ad blocker is registered under your account info. Should work on any computer or tv.
