2 free wringers, with a catch

Two free wringer washers. One Maytag. The other one, I've seen one like it before, but don't remember. Maybe Kenmore?
It looks like the agitator from the Maytag is laying on/in the other machine. At least that means it's not stuck!
The catch is, they're assuming they don't work, and they're being given away with a bunch of other scrap. You have to take it all.
I would actually be tempted. But, I have no more room, and I don't have a vehicle to haul all the other scrap.

The other machine is a Kenmore.  That big ol' fan on top of the Maytag is something else!  Perhaps an old attic cooling fan?

Yeah! I've seen something similar, but possibly larger, as an exhaust fan in an old auto repair shop.

wasn't there a member needing parts from a Visi-Matic he was restoring....timer knob I think....

heres their chance.....sometimes parts are not always in abundance....grab it when/where you can....

Does it look like one or both of these machines might be salvageable?
They might look a lot better with the dirt and spider webs cleaned off.
Despite what the ad says, I don't know if I should try to get the owner to part with just the washers.
I hate to see something that could be saved just get scrapped.
I do have one Maytag, albeit a different model than this one. But I kind of like the Kenmore.
It looks like there might be a cap for the agitator missing, as well as the lid. But, who knows...they might be laying on the floor or something. The agitator from the Maytag is laying in the Kenmore.

Look, in all probability, both of those machines will fire right up. It happens all the time with those two makes. And you're right: to have a Maytag agitator loose and unstuck is a real bonus, especially in red. The Visimatic is a mid-60's model, a tank; none of the controls are damaged, and the timer is at OFF, a good sign that it may be working one!

A good clean-up would reveal a couple of gems.

If you have a friend with a pick-up, or even renting one for a day would be worth it to have those washers despite having to haul away the junk.

Thought about it myself since I need pumps and wringers for a Tag and a Visi, and western Massachusetts is not that far away from the New York State border.

Go for it, Man. They're free, and you don't really mind the junque, do you ;'D

Hi, Michael,

At the risk of getting kicked out of the house, I have been in contact with the owner.
He's checking if any more parts are laying around. I was curious about the lid and the agitator cap for the Kenmore.
The Maytag agitator being in the Kenmore almost suggests that someone was tinkering with them, once upon a time. As dirty as they are, and the current owner looking to scrap them, I figure whoever they once belonged to passed away and someone is looking to clean up the property.
I don't know why I'm getting myself into this. I have a Maytag as it is that I haven't touched in the year that I've owned it, except to clean it up cosmetically, and plug it in once in a while, to hear it run.
I'm somehow drawn to that Kenmore though. But then, the Maytag is probably the more desirable machine. And it's the top of the line. The one I have now is a J2L.
Does the same rule apply to a Kenmore as a Maytag, with regard to hauling them? If you lay it down, will it leak oil?
I really don't have room for both of them. Or one of them, truth be told. But my heart speaks louder than my head.
If anything develops, I'll be posting.

Question:

I had buried a question in that rambling post. I should probably post it separately.
When I got my J2L, I was informed that you only lay them front side down, or they'll leak oil.
Mine leaked in spite of laying it face down.
Is there a similar rule with a Kenmore like this one? Do they leak oil if laid down?

Sorry Barry, I went off half-cocked~

My old friend Paul Francis came over for a drink on the deck and I told him the story about your find. He asked how much junk was there, so I went in the house to retrieve my laptop, then showed him the pix, and he said, "Man, that's a lot of junk." I had not fully appreciated how much stuff was involved. Either I hadn't seen all the pix or was too focused on the gems. But yes, you're both right: 'tis a lot, including a hot water tank, all those big sheets of whatever. Gonna go back now and fully apprehend what's there. A recycler would make short order of it; alas, we're not that.

I have not had a Kenmore leak oil when laying it down. Easy Spindriers are the machines that will spill quite a bit of tranny fluid when grounded for longer than 45 minutes. Upright Maytags sometimes leak a bit of oil down the wringer leg, but it is not lethal for the machine.

Let's find a recycler with a big truck.

I enjoyed your post, so did Paul Francis.

PS: Aworg is full of members whose spouses, mates, and lovers have given them ultimatums, washer widows, etc. ;'D

That is a great term!
I've gotten myself onto pretty thin ice with my vacuum cleaners.
A second wringer (or second and third) might just be the proverbial straw.
I haven't heard back from the owner as of yet. I understand though. Digging around a dirty basement to look for parts for something that he just considers junk is probably not high on his list of priorities.

If I were younger, this would be a perfect summer project: fly in, rent a big Budget truck, load up, stop at a recycler in Western Mass., drive home, reveal those two diamonds in the rough, and live happily ever after.
