Hey Gordon, the differences are slight, but that 1/2" of added length to the "tapered" flex-vane of the 2 piece "Super" Straight Vane agitator really creates a powerful rollover surge. Yesterday, I finally got my Whirlpool Gold working again. Had to replace the pump, if I'm not imaging things, it seems like it's working stronger than before. I was really WOWED from the water action. The first time I saw the 2 piece SSV was in a Estate washer I believe back in the late 80's at Sears...the one of my second agitator photo I posted. I was totally unaware that there was a 2 piece SV agitator that had the " step-down notch" flex vanes. Excuse my nuttiness, I measured the straight vanes from the 1 and 2 piece SV agitators. The 1 piece SV vanes are a little wider than the 2 piece and the step-down notch flex vane is shorter in length than the 2 piece tapered flex vane. I don't know why they would decrease the width of the 2 piece straight vanes since the bottom flex vanes were a longer.
