2-Piece Direct Drive Super Straight-Vane Agitator

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Hey Gordon, the differences are slight, but that 1/2" of added length to the "tapered" flex-vane of the 2 piece "Super" Straight Vane agitator really creates a powerful rollover surge. Yesterday, I finally got my Whirlpool Gold working again. Had to replace the pump, if I'm not imaging things, it seems like it's working stronger than before. I was really WOWED from the water action. The first time I saw the 2 piece SSV was in a Estate washer I believe back in the late 80's at Sears...the one of my second agitator photo I posted. I was totally unaware that there was a 2 piece SV agitator that had the " step-down notch" flex vanes. Excuse my nuttiness, I measured the straight vanes from the 1 and 2 piece SV agitators. The 1 piece SV vanes are a little wider than the 2 piece and the step-down notch flex vane is shorter in length than the 2 piece tapered flex vane. I don't know why they would decrease the width of the 2 piece straight vanes since the bottom flex vanes were a longer.

Need Reference Guide

As a relative newbie to AW with a DD machine, I have always wished there was a thread or document (with photos) that explained all the different agitators for DD machines, with their relative strengths and weaknesses, and compatibility.

This would be an excellent idea for a "sticky" thread that contributors could add to and refine, but this forum platform doesn't have those.

Why not create your own....mix and match tops and bottoms....

for most DD, I use the ex-large blue base from a KitchenAid, and a white top from a Whirlpool, with a plain cap, FS dispenser is optional......I wished the base came in white too, but you never see it when its washing anyway......and if you want roll over, this is the base you want!

Sure you can Spooki, I have a DD Triple-Action (spiral vane) and the Total Care (superflex vanes) agitator...mix-matched. Hi Yogi, that agitator is in white...try these part numbers...3950579 (3349582) and (3349583)...

So far, it's been totally impossible to find the gray, 2-piece straight vane with the "step-down notch" flex vane. Many appliance sites may have parts/numbers but, no photos to verify the agitator part...which sucks!!! A former AW.ORG club member (name), westytoploader gave this agitator to compactc9 for his Whirlpool washer.
