I think the seller just refers to the weight of the machines, not the capacity.

is probably right, the seller is thinking of the weight...although I remember that dryer series as heavier than 100 pounds.

Mieles are great machines, but they don't last forever (and neither do Mercedes Benz cars, unless they are given museum preservation treatment). How much will it cost to fix the timer? I'm guessing in the hundreds... of dollars, not pounds ;-)

Part probably isn't that dear, well more than a US made version, but after Miele USA factors in shipping from the EU and so forth would be up there. Labour would be a large expense,however if one was able to do the job oneself, not that big of a deal. I mean to pick up a Miele W&D set for under 100 USD. My only concern would be what else is going or likely to go if the timer is having problems.

Timer could also have been damaged by a child or someone else playing around or perhaps a substance was dripped or spilled down the front of the machine.

With proper care, old war-horse Miele washers such as these do tend to last quite along time. Very simple washers compared to the Navatronics, much like old mechanical automatic dishwashers and washing machines. Again much would depend on proper use and maintanence. No routine over-loading, proper detergents, letting the machine air out between uses.

Miele USA must have lots of these machines still out there, since last time I checked (several months ago), most of the parts are still available.

Personally, unless one lived close by and was able to purchase the set for under $100, wouldn't really bother. Seller's attitude bothers me, and would want to kick the tires at pick-up to see if he's not trying to pull a fast one.

frankly, pisses me off.
I can well think of why that rinse may be behaving the way it is, but no way am I going to discuss it here...the seller would, no doubt, raise their reserve.
Those machines are, in many ways, like a '53 Chevy. It really didn't get any better after them...just more bell and whistles.

I did some archive diving tonight. Very interesting, looks like my suspicions might be justified.
But not a word here...I have long suspected some of these "sellers" are jacking prices up because of us.
Nearly died the other day. Was in a thrift shop which is not known for its cheap prices - middle of Wyoming, out in the boondocks.
So these two New York Queens, bling-bling in, buy all sorts of things and tell the lady behind the counter..."it is so cheap, why, we would have paid four times as much!"
I wanted to bitch slap them both, but was raised to never hit a girl...especially one who's 6'4", 250 pounds. And that was the tiny bitc-, er, dame.
Of course Miss Thang behind the counter immediately started re-pricing the stock in her head...

I really don't think that people are raising prices on washers like Mieles because of "us". Maybe for 50's era pink Lady Kenmores. But I've seen Miele sets advertised for much more than $375 (what this seller is asking). I don't know if that's a reasonable price or not. I do see some grunge at the bottom of the door opening... so I suspect there's grunge inside the thing as well. I paid $400 for my W1065/T1050 set, which I think, in retrospect, was about $100 too much. But since it cost me about $50 to travel to the seller and back in my gas guzzler, I decided to get them just for bragging rights with Cimberlie ;-). Plus you can't deny a 200F boil wash is pretty neat, and something I don't think you can get in any Miele made in the past five or more years.

I think the whole phenomenon is somewhat like the classic car market for cars with "reliable" reputations. Sellers tend to try to emphasize the make's reputation, but in reality much depends upon how the car has been maintained. A classic Mercedes can look spotless inside and out but have an engine horribly encrusted with filthy hardened oil, and a cooling system clogged with rust (sort of like the '64 Plymouth I bought as my first car!). Caveat emptor. It's all well and good that a machine has good genes, but one that's been abused and neglected may turn on ya. LOL.
