While not a OEM water inlet valve, I trust the Robert Shaw name. For reference the original valve part # WP3979346. It still works fine, just replacing it due to age.

An oddity.

 

 

I usually wash warm wash/warm rinse. I noticed last night that while the warm wash fills correctly, now there is no warm rinse, it's cold only. Could the water inlet valve be going bad? Or perhaps the water temperature switch?

yours may fall in the series where the spin spray is warm, but the rinse fill is cold...

From what I've read, it seems that it is indeed the water temperature switch. I am going to check it with a meter to to be sure. If it's bad, it will be an easy replacement, IF I can find the part. So far it's NLA.

I feel your pain

I bought this Maytag in 2009 when they came out with load sensing. I wanted one modern machine to use.

This has been very good with the exception of this switch. This switch controls water temp and load sensing (water level) on this machine. Everything worked well for the first ten years, then it decided that all rinses would be tap hot water.

I've replaced this switch 3 times now. The current switch has been good for the last year so fingers crossed.

Don't give up, but try to find a genuine FSP switch if possible.

Perhaps another switch that fits similar models that may have less temps available could be used in place of an exact match? It would mean the template doesn't match but I'm guessing the wiring would hopefully match up.

Hi Paul. No I couldn't go that route. It would drive me nuts. It has to work as intended.

 

I have discovered that the model # prior to this one WP3950344 is more readily available, but only used. I'll keep searching.

 

The new water inlet valve has arrived. I'll be installing that next.

My mistake. The part number for this washer IS WP3950344.

 

The rinse water starts filling warm, as selected. Within a minute the hot water is switched off and the cold water continues until fill. The switch checked out OK with the multimeter.

You mean the board next to the switch? It was partially disengaged. I reseated it and tried the washer, same issue.

My Kenmore 80 Series washer from 2000 does the same thing with the warm/warm rinse. I read the owner's manual and it states that the warm rinse temperature will be cooler "than what we're used to". From what I have seen, none of these late 90's or early 2000's washers due a true warm rinse. This applies with and without the ATC.

This is from the owners manual, indeed the rinse "warm" temperature is cooler than the wash "warm" temperature. However, the rinse in my machine is cold. No matter if you use the manual setting or the ATC.

I am going to bite the bullet and order a used temperature control switch. I'll be installing the water inlet valve later tonight.

Well keep us posted if that works. Could it be the ATC temp. control switch? Maybe it's since that's electronic, the components wore out? What about the temperature sensor?

Cold water is 70F.

 

Hot water is 120F.

 

Temperatures vary widely. In the winter cold comes out ice cold, and depending on the time of day, the hot water can come out like lava. Really depends how many idiots are running dishwashers and washing machines without check valves. I usually run the dishwasher after 10PM because that is when the water is at it's hottest.

Apparently there is it .... your cited info says warm rinse is 70°F-ish ... so the tap-cold currently isn't low enough to trigger any hot mixing.  If it was providing a warmer rinse previously to 9/5/2021 Reply #34 then ??

Aha. Glenn, that must be it. I remember the warm water rinse because the fill flow was stronger. It must have been during the cooler months when the cold water temps are lower. Thanks!

Excellent point about the warm rinse only activating when the water temperature is colder than 70F. I wonder why they designed it like that. You would think with the non ATC warm/warm it would let both hot and cold in continuously.

Nice job restoring the Speed Queen. I love my TC5. I have a ton of videos on my channel including my DD Kenmore.

Matt, I'd LOVE to get a TC5 one of these days! I now believe they're the last good top loader washers on the market today. But, I think I may end up going for a front loader instead because I'm a bit concerned that water restrictions may take place in my area soon since I live in the 2nd driest state in the country.
