Hello everybody. I have noticed that when the electronic controls have been reset that when I put it on normal/high-temp wash, it will do a prewash, main wash, two prerinses and a final rinse. Also, I've noticed when it runs, it sounds sort of like a GE potscrubber from the '80's at least the main wash pump does. What was so great about the whirlpool gold dishwasher model gu2455xtsq1. I have that model with digital display. Thank you.

That was a Point Voyager module WP machine, correct? With the horizontal pump?
I highly doubt those are supposed to have the groan of an 80s GE with the stamped steel motor.
Voyager machines were rather quiet. There must be a bearing issue or something lodged in the chopper assembly.

It is a point voyager dishwasher. There's nothing wrong with it. I just noticed that the main wash motor sounds similar to the GE potscrubber from the '80's. I believe the main wash motor has a fan on the back of the motor.

I am running a load on normal/high temp wash. I noticed that the main wash motor sounds like the GE potscrubber from the 80's probably because there is a fan on it. Does anybody know if there's a fan on the motor and if so, what dishwasher does it remind you of in terms of the sonds of the main motor?

Point Voyager and internal fan
Jerome, your machine does have the Point Voyager wash system in it along with the optical soil sensor which was also used in the Kitchen Aid and Kenmore Dishwashers of the same design. The pump motor has a cooling fan on it but it is part of the rotor itself and is enclosed within the rear housing of the motor.
I doubt that the fan is the noisemaker as these pumps are known for the seals going bad and taking out the front bearing. It happened at about 4 years on my KUDP02RIWH2 and I had to really argue strongly with Kitchenaid to replace it under the 5 year warranty. Took a lot of persuading and about 3 weeks for them to finally get it to me. the original was making so much noise it was difficult to hear anything going on in the kitchen.
As far as the multiple prewashes and after rinses, once you clear the electronics and reset them to factory defaults, it tells you in the owners manual that you should run a full/normal cycle without interruption so the board can calibrate itself. The service literature will say the same as well as the installation instructions that came with the machine.
The machine will self calibrate from time to time and of course will vary the cycles depending on the load of dishes as well as the soil level in the machine so you may sometimes hear it go from the prwash right into the main wash or add additional purges and rinses after the main wash.

hard food disposer
What were the blades of the hard food disposer made out of? I always use the normal/high temp wash. I noticed when using cascade crystal clear rinse aid that spray arms speed up and go faster.

I used the normal/high temp wash. It did a prewash, mainwash, purge, final rinse. Thermal holds were at 63 minutes on the main wash and 44 minutes during the final rinse. When the rinse aid was dispensed, the spray arms went a lot faster especially the top one. That reminded me of my 2004 Kenmore dishwasher similar to the one I had. It too had the sound of a GE potscrubber due to the quiet hum of the main wash pump. However, it had a short prerinse without pauses whereas my 2007 whirlpool gold does.

I will agree with you, that the Point Voyager motor probably sounds similar to GE's "QuietPower" capacitor motor.
They're quite similar. And pretty quiet for what they are.

I had a Kenmore dishwasher built by GE from 1999 to 2004. I then had a Kenmore built by Whirlpool in February 2004. They both sounded very similar. I now have the 2007 Whirlpool Gold and it sounds like my 2004 Kenmore. The point voyager was much quieter especially the motor.

If it means anything - we visited, back in July, Florida and in our villa was a Kenmore dishwasher (2009 sears model), and that when set to Power wash (there was simply power or regular or plate warmer) did 2 rinses, a wash, 2 more rinses, and dry.

One during main wash and twice during final rinse due to the detergent/rinse aid dispensers dispensing the designated product. I noticed that when high temp wash is selected on normal, the time drops.

Hey Stevet, I have a question. Do the new maytags of today have a cooling fan as in they do in the whirlpools and if so, where? I noticed that the control board will blink pots and pans all the time.

There's nothing wrong with the dishwasher except for the control panel. About the cooling fan, there's nothing wrong with that. I just notice a varying hum. If the water is dirty or a bit sudsy with microsudsing detergent or residual rinse aid, the fan is more pronounced. When the wash cycle progresses, you will barely notice it. The control panel will blink pots and pans, sometimes with 2 bars showing up in the display window. What suggestions of new dishwashers would you recommend? I was under the impression that the new maytags will do just fine.
