2011 WP top loader

I have a question I hope someone here can help me with, my sister has a 2011 top loading washer with the lid lock, the seal leaked causing water to get in the gearcase I replaced that, just before I replaced it, the washer was acting funny ( The lid lock light would flash ) After trying to start it, it will activate I think the actuator, the tub will turn, stop, start to spin the lid lock light will be solid, after doing what seems to be tests.... it will stop the lid lock will blink and will not reset with the button, it has to be unplugged and re-plugged in it will then unlock...but will do the same thing again, would that be a bad lid lock switch ????, I can work on belt and direct drives but know NOTHING about the electronics on these machines..... Diagnostic mode should provide one or more fault codes to indicate what component or function is the source of the problem.  Should be a tech sheet stashed somewhere in the machine.  Or do Google or YouTube search for "whirlpool VMW diagnostic" or similar terms.

Probably bad capacitor on PC board

When my 2010 Cabrio had that same symptom,a bad capacitor on the PC board was found to be the cause: #c182,1000uf/6.3v(IIRC)Very easy fix,~$.50 part,I salvaged a replacement from an old set-top TV box

Test mode is the answer

Likely your leaking gearcase spit oily goo on your shift actuator.

Test mode is simple with the knob left click, (counter clockwise) then r,r,r,L,r. The lights start flashing. One more click clockwise and press start. Now you are reading fault codes. Cycle the knob to read them all. The book is in the front of the machine for code decode

Tried the test mode.... the Lights came on after about 30 secs the washer started to fill with a half inch of water, agitated, drained, started to spin, stopped the lid lock light started blinking... everything stopped.... the machine needs to sit for 10 minutes before re-trying the test right ???? I tried re- running the test but it wouldn't do it.....

Gotta Love Electronics-

The Frigidaire Affinity FL that I bought in 2012 waited until its company warranty ran out, then started deleting the final rinse. Had a service contract, guys could never understand why, as it did it on every cycle and at random. Replaced the main board, twice. Counting on it, I'm sure, I just gave up and when it finished early, would manually dial the final rinse and spin.

Gotta love elecronics! We're just so sophisticated these days...

I've got one of those too. When a service tech replaced the gear case in 2014, he said he also replaced the mode shifter. All was fine until 2 months later when it stopped pulse slow spin filling on the wash, and static filling. Goes from sensing to pre wash when filling. Fills half full on normal cycle when it used to only fill to the top of the impeller fins.
Extended warranty is gone, I'm not putting another repair into it. Not worth it.
I suspect it needs a new controller or encoder.
When you start soldering on pcb boards, you need a heat sink, and anti static device. Not my forte'.
I'm the only one who does laundry now, so I know how it acts, and use hand wash cycle. Longest wash tine for heavy soil, warm or hot wash, except for delicates, and high spin. I get a third of a tub of water, use a half dispenser full of he detergent, and a deep enough single rinse. A cycle takes 45 minutes. That I can live with till it croaks.

The Lowe's contract service down here was, at least then, done by the company that Sears service turned into.

One guy who came out did some fiddling with the controls and saw that I had Cheer HE detergent on the shelf in my utility room above the machine. He told me with a perfectly straight face that the reason that my machine wasn't finishing its cycles was that I wasn't using Tide...

This is the quality of service that we get down here with Lowe's. It's why I bought my SQ pair in October from the local appliance dealer and just bought a Frigidaire d/w from him.

Remember the Lowes tv commercial about the noisy fridge a couple years ago?
My 2007 GE sounded like that.
So, when A GE factory service tech was here to repair my range, he went inside the freezer and adjusted the evaporator fan. Walla! No more noise! I wonder if a few bought a new fridge from Lowes, then Lowes donated otherwise fine working fridges to habitat, etc. then got a tax write off.
Sears and Whirlpool use a company here called A&E service. I hear they are good. My extended warranty was with Home Depot, and I can't complain. They did what was expected.
Upon a remodel, when the delivery kids both asked me if they could keep my '95 Frigidaire Gallery fridge and Maytag washer, I told them both yes. They were young and just starting out.
