hello to all aw members here is a fun little quiz if you had a choice in 2021 between a modern day atc topload washer or vintage with true washer rinse temp what would be your choices

a)a modern day he ge or a filter flo washer (general electric brand)

b)a modern day whirlpool or a vintage direct drive whirlpool or classic belt drive whirlpool (includes the kenmore brand) and vintage front load washers as well as top load washer

c)a whirlpool made maytag or a genuine made maytag before they where purchuse by whirlpool

d) any brands you know including speed queen have fun and all answers are good this quiz is for all members no matter witch country we come from

I pretty much have found one of the machines that’s on my bucket list and that is my 1963 RCA Whirlpool Imperial Mark XII set in turquoise, the other is a early 70’s Maytag A806 set in white and hopefully one pops up for a reasonable price and is a reasonable distance from where I live.

I had a 1973 or 4 Maytag . . .

. . . that worked flawlessly for many years.  I now have a SpeedQueen front load which is 4 or 5 years old, and it works well.  There are only a couple of complaints about the front load, one of which is once it starts, you can't add anything to the load because it will always drain before the door can be opened.

If I had to get a different one, it would be another Maytag or a Frigidaire from the '60's or '70's.

Good questions!

A) Filter-Flo. One with the copper pan and in PANK! or turquoise.

B) No American front-loads. A vintage Miele, sure. A vintage Whirlpool or Kenmore without the thrash-o-matic? In PANK or turquoise? You betcha.

C) Real Maytag, preferably center dial and any color but Avocado or Harvest Gold.

Some of the ladies around here who rejected the Chinese offer to keep workers in Newton because 'Whirlpool' was gen-u-whine 'murikan got a taste of the 21st century's attitude toward US workers early on. I still won't buy modern Whirlpool because of it.

D)Speed Queen before 2018, though I've never been as big a fan of them as some.

Basically, though, I want more thumpers. In PANK!

Yes I agree if I could only have one (ugh) it would be my '58 Unimatic washer.

I don't fully understand your question.

I would not buy anything atc but I will go vintage and agitator top loader.
I have many vintage frontloader from all European makers but nothing I ever used outperformed vintage-older agitator washers.
Some went very close in terms of performance but still too much time to wait for my standards.
In the time they do one load I do three in a agitator top loader.

Oh and the new front loaders, I would never get one even if they paid me to, talking about 3hrs waterless cycles and no actual temperatures reached
I seriously would rather use one of those plastic Chinese twin tubs and that says enough (which BTW I ended up doing in my summer house since my aunt as she was using the house replaced the machine I had there with a Hotpoint since the other one broke, and that without telling me a thing)...I would have brought up one of my vintage Miele's! Probably the w427...
Damn that Hotpoint won't even remove sand from a load of 2 beach towels!

Even my sister next door comes to my house doing her laundry in the speed queen as she can't stand her aqualtis...

My list

a)a modern day LG Front load or Whirlpool Calypso washer.

b)a vintage direct drive whirlpool or classic belt drive whirlpool (includes the Kenmore brand) and vintage front load washers as well as top load washer

c)a genuine made Maytag before they where purchased by whirlpool

d)Maytag Neptune TL or FL, Bauknecht big/Whirlpool Duet

I didn't know Speed Queen FL's don't allow you to pause and add an item to the machine once it has started (without draining all the wash water out.) That seems stupid, especially because I believe all other brands do allow you to add an item on most cycles. (There are a few cycle on my LG that won't let you open the door after start because of higher water levels or water temperature.)

When Samsung came out with the mini port on the door of its washer I thought it was a silly gimmick since I believed you could pause any FL and open the door to add items. So I guess that mini port was a response to a Speed Queen deficiency. That and no heater. (Although a SQ will probably last two to three times longer than the Samsung.)
