For a brief period, Whirlpool made non-HE VMW’s with a load size selector and a true agitator. Those machines used a full tub of water, but they did use spray rinsing and they did have temperature regulations.
This type of VMW was used on lower end models made from 2010 to 2015 and were made under various brands, including Amana, Roper, Admiral, Maytag, Crosley, Kenmore, and Whirlpool.
In my opinion, these VMW’s had the best cleaning performance.
Example of a Whirlpool VMW with a load size selector.
These weren’t as good as direct drives, but they were better than the current auto-sensing VMWs (although I have an impeller auto sensing VMW myself), but it doesn’t have the flat impeller so i get some blooming.
