This is a (very clean) DD machine. Hard to say without a date code on age, but it's 82-86. This could either be a neutral drainer or a spin drainer. Maybe Gordon can tell more about the control panel as to narrow down the age a bit more. I have this exact machine, and it's an 85. I think these all had the clothes guard on the basket until the redesign in 86, my 85 is a neutral-drainer and still has the clothes guard on it, but had a straight vane agitator.

About the control panel
This is a 1983 model. They began their debut in the spring of 1983 and remained to the fall of 1986.
Without seeing the model number I know this because the '83s were the only black panels of the 81/82/83 lines using this style panel to have their series number above the Heavy Duty or Heavy Duty Plus designator on the lower right side of the panel. This one says its a 70-series. My best guess is that the model is 110.813751x0. This was a common model. The machine Tim mentions without the DA agitator was a 60-series - they had them with or without the Pre-Wash, and it was only a 60-series because of the non-DA agitator.

No, mine was white, but I have seen the agitator you speak of, and I think it may have been either an option or an early machine only unit. It sort of has a screen filter in the middle of it and it a brownish-gold.

On the gold agitator
They are VERY VERY rare and used in the early days only. There were two versions with slighly different designs and filters. Best I could find when doing research with my Kenmore model number list, each version was used in only one Kenmore model, and they were the early "experimental" models of 1980 and 1981.
I'll have to check that out in detail again.

i have an'84 DD 60 series,mine has straight vane white agitator and spin drain.
I can imagine a DD with the dual action would wear out the "dogs"pretty fast LOL.

I have one of the rare gold agitators with the built in lint filter from a 1981 machine, I have never seen a DD washer built before the middle of 1981 so I dough that there were any 1980 models that were sold but WP had been working on the DD washers since the early 1970s. The calypso was also being developed for over 15 years and WP initially thought that the calypso would be the machine that most of their washers would become as the DDs were phased out.
But as we became more of a global economy and products became more the same all over the world it became clear that the US would no longer dictate the type of washing machines that were used around the world let alone here in the USA.

The model number for the first Sears Direct Drive washer is 110.81061100. That's a 1980 model number. It is a 60-series machine. This washer used the agitator with the built-in filter, which was WP's replacement part number 62964. A follow-on '81 model that also used it was 110.81161100.
There was a basket mount filter model which used a similar agitator without a filter, part number 63018, on models 110.81167x10 and x20, where x is the color digit.
Interestingly, a third model, 110.81177800 shows in Whirlpool's book, but not on Sears' site, and the 110.81167x00 is in the WP book, but all blank and not on the Sears site either. Its like these models had been conceived, then replaced before they were even marketed.
But, the three models above used the funky gold agitators, and one was definitely a 1980 number. They may not have existed until 1981 in production though... The catalog has a caption for these two agitators "Direct Drive rear motor models".

My 85 model is a neutral drainer and still retains the guard, it's a 60-series, and pretty low mileage.
