Well in a few weeks time I will be picking up 3 new vintage machines. These machines will complete my small collection for me as ive always wanted 1 specific model of each major brand from back in the day.I am very excited and cant wait to play!

2. Servis Quartz 600 - I only spent the first 11 years of my life playing with one and looking at that programmer LOL

3. Defo a Hoover maybe a A3110 or something from 1982 or so.

OMG

would the first one be the fantastic Hotpoint Microtronic X2000 (cant think of another X2000) from the early 80's?

second one - servis slimline quartz

third one.........mmmmm..........hotpoint liberator something or other - either an 1828 (please let it be) or a 1509 top loader (probably the latter, what with the slight silvery sheen to your teaser pic).

I so hope that I am right with the first one - another one that would be in my own 'imaginary' collection - a design classic in my humble opinion.

Machine 2 = Servis Quartz 600..Date - 1980
Machine 3 = Hotpoint Liberator Top Loader 1509/05...Date April 1977

The Hotpoint 1509/05 was called liberator in the advertising but it still has the old "Automatic de luxe" wording instead of "Liberator super de luxe". Plus this model has everything in words on the control fascia rather than the symbols.This 05 version dosn't have a rinse hold button.

Love that Microtronic - a really smart looking Hotpoint. Loved the angular programmer facia. You will have to keep an eye out for a 17660 Reversomatic to match with it (are you full up to the exclusion of matching dryers? - Servis Slimline Multivents seem to appear on ebay with a fair amount of regularity).

Apologies for spoling the fun - I was so excited at the prospect of a preserved Microtronic, that I got carried away. I shouldn't have been quite so blatant with my guesses. Sorry.

How did you come by them - adverts/council tips or is it a secret. I ask because I will need some gathering tips for when I win the lottery and am able to develop a collection of my own. (I am so tempted to go and visit an old aquaintance, from when I was a kid, who was the proud owner of a 3223H widebody Keymatic.....just in case. What a wonderful first exhibit that would be).

Keep us upto date with the progress - especially with the Micro' (I make no apologies for being such a Hotpoint partisan - like with the matchboxes from Hoover, anything constructed remotely like a liberator is fine with me).

The very very annoying thing is that I had a 17760 until last year!. It was my sisters machine and i swapped it for the dryer I had at the time.Unfortunately one of the heating spirals gave in and then the motor gave up. All it needed though which i didnt know at the time was a new capacitor and of course a new heater spiral.I never thought I would ever find the matching washer so decided to let it go! I have kicked myself around the house many times for getting rid of it now I am getting the micro.

Although saying that it would be another machine which we dont really have the space for and im quite content just with the 2 Hoover dryers I have, as I decided that I wasn't going for any more dryers.

Im very happy now with the collection and dont think I will be looking for any more washers.(Couldnt say no to a Hoover Computer Control though). I will have 1 of each major brand and the models I have been looking for for years plus the 1 top loader I have always wanted. I am a very happy and contented boy now. Its a very manageable collection also as the collection we had before was out of hand for the space we had and it got a bit overwelming.We want to keep the space we have now and not fill it up to much.

Im getting the machines off an engineer friend so they will all be serviced and repaired as the top loader and micro had faults.I have been waiting for a year for them and so now the time is coming im getting over excited and I had to share!

Really pleased that you have come by these machines - all classics that I remember as a youngster. Superb!

So thats the secret - network with repairmen. Makes complete sense - will have to bear that in mind when that lottery win happens (have to by a ticket first).

There are three family aquaintances that I remember having classic machines, whom I haven't seen for years and of whom I frequently wonder 'what if they are still there'.

The first is the Keymatic 3223H mentioned earlier.

The second was a neighbour opposite my late grandma's who owned a 'Philco-Ford' machine. A massive brute of a machine resembling a Bendix LT (any info on this machine would be appreciated guys - what the hell was Ford doing getting into washers!!?? Even had a ford oval on it).

The third was a Microtronic which lived/s next door to an Aunt and Uncle in Blackpool - last saw the machine about eight or so years ago. Pretty sure though that it was the brown 18871 L.E and not an 18880, like yours (think the 18871 was an 800/500 rpm machine, whereas yours is a 1000/500 rpm machine). Their 18871 replaced an Electrolux in about 1982/83. Glad to know that at least one of the Microtronic family of machines is safe.

Great news Mark on the purchases - brought a smile to my face.

Hey Mark,

Great collection additions - I am so jealous that you have a 1509 (look at my username and you might guess why)! I'm looking forward to seeing more pics - does it have the earlier drain-hose by the way - I think they changed on the 1509/10...

I have the service book for the 1509 series, with all variants up to the 15792 so if you want a copy let me know!

Nick...Spot on with no 2 machine! Very good guesses on nos 1 and 3! Ive never really been into the other brands as I love the machines with the noisy motors.The only quiet machine I love is the square door Bendix but thats either because of the square door or its sentimental value after my mum having one for her first automatic front loader.

Paul...I dont think there was a Liberator version as the microtronic I believe first came out after the Liberator range. (I may be wrong though).Im not sure if the 18880 was the first Micro or not.You dont need to worry about guessing correctly.That was the whole idea..I knew someone would get them all!!

David...I will certainly do more pics when they arrive and ive given them a good clean. I also have the service information booklet for the 1509 - 15792 so im ok there. Thank you very much for offering to copy yours for me though.I have the later one for the 9600,96700,96702 so if you dont have that one I can do a copy of that for you if you would like.The drain hose had unfortunately been cut off!!!! The position though is bottom right which I believe is the last time this position was used.They moved it up on the 10 I think. I used to have a 15790 and have got some pics of that machine.Would you like me to send you them? I have always wanted a "purple" top loader ever since I was young as my mums friend had one and once when I went round it was on! I must have been quite young as I remember opening the lid and peering in but I could only see the top of the filter tray! I never thought I would ever have one and the other 2 machines aswell so I cant wait to get them and line them up and start playing! The only problem will be which one to use!

Question for UK members....Does anyone have the instruction manual for any of the 3 machines? If so is it possible I could have a copy?

Love that Hotpoint Liberator! Great features---a spiral agitator, a "filter-flo" system and a high speed spin! Awesome!

They are great Gyrafoam. We have 2 dogs and a cat and the Hotpoint filter flo system is absolutely brilliant on removing pet hair. When I use the front loader everything comes out with small hair balls all over it so im really looking forward to using the liberator and getting rid of all that pet hair!!

My Nans Exact Quartz

As much as I like the looks of that Microtronic and Hotpoint being my fave make, I just sooooo want that Servis!

Strangely (I do love that microtronic) I dont feel for it LOL like I feel for the Quartz.

I swear the day I own or indeed see another one in person I would die!

Cant belive my grandparents favoured a built in Homark over it in 1995. and then for the Homark to die 7 years later, now they have a crummy Tricity Bendix CAW1000.
I honestly think had it not have been for the fashion of new fitted kitchens and BI applinaces they would still have that Quartz.
I spent so much time just playing with it. Opening the door - was a novelty having to turn on a washer to get the door open, and turning on a washer and it all lighting up was a big thing for me, made me feel "adult" lol
Playing with the drawer and removing the syphon from the FS compartment.
Pressing Cancel while the door was open and realising it turned on them pump with the door open, frightened me to death the frst time but it was soooo naughty and I had fun everytime I did it thereafter.

I think full videos are required here LOL although that probably wont satisfy my appetite for one.

Best thing was my Nan didnt even mind me messing, I think she knew it was built well enough to stand it and she was heard to say (CRINGE) she wished she had gotten the Servis Rainwave Integrated instead of the Homark - like my Great Nan had!

Mark,

It's just great that you've got one of these fine machines running - do I spot that it has the earlier washtub too? Is it the cast-iron upper balance ring with the concrete filled collar? The 1509/05 was the transitional machine in terms of contruction - with the electric fly-back, improved power unit and the two-pole motor (I'm not sure the latter was a step forward). A cousin of ours had this very machine until about six or so years ago, but alas it went to the laundry in the sky before I could lay a claim to it....shame...

The drain-hose might actually have split rather than being cut-off - the earlier style was wire-reinforced for the greater part of its length and tended to split just above the drain-panel connector, especially if the machine was moved for use rather than plumbed in.

Do you have a service book for the 1500-1502? I have the 1504 series service manual as well, but not the earlier one, and would love to take you up on the offer of a copy of the new Generation series manual. I'm looking forward to the videos too - if you get round to public performances let me know!

Yes I do believe it has the earlier wash tub.I havn't actually got the machines yet but will be picking them up in a couple of weeks.I understand what your saying re 2 pole motor.The extra speed puts more strain on the pump which lessens its life span. It has its original pump but a new seal is being put on so hopefully it will last well.
The hose is apparently broken off where it enters the back of the machine.Im afraid I don't have the service book for the 1500-1502. I only have the instruction book for one of them (not sure which). I have added you to my msn. Im not sure if you use msn msg and I apologise for adding you without asking but I thought we could have a chat and I need to send you an alternative email. For some reason since we got broadband again it dosn't like hotmail.Its fine on msger but I have problems with emails. I am very happy to copy the service book for you and I though on msger I could get your address.

Paul - the wasn't a Liberator Microtronic - the first Microtronic was after the change in 79 to brown trim, at which stage the Liberator adjective was dropped. I'm pretty sure the Microtronic first appeared about 1980/1981. The LE version was a transitional model just be for the 'New Generation' LE range of 83/84. Worth noting that the Microtronic was the first machine to ursurp the Top Loader as the 'headline' machine in the catalgoues - a portent of the end of that great model alas....

Hi David.

Thanks for clearing up whether there was a purple microtronic. I didn't think there was, but wasn't totally certain (would have looked really smart though, with all those puple, violet and lilac buttons, a white powder drawer and beading with a silver facia - MS photoshop time methinks!).

Next problem. I am trying to put together a spreadsheet of Hotpoint models, but know very little about the toploaders.

I know of the 1501 1504 1508 and 1509 - were there models which filled the gaps e.g 1507?
Also you speak of grades within a model - you mention 1509/05. Can you clear this up for me? I know a similar situation existed with the frontloading 1828 which had, at least, an 1828/02 and 1828/07.

Any help would be greatfully received.
