1966-7 Lady Kenmore Gas Dryer

These were great dryers, this one has the real modulating gas burner, 25,000 BTUs.

This dryer is so much more advanced than a DG806 its not even close, its no wonder that WP was building 10 times as many dryers as MT in the 60s.

John, if I wanted to convert my 1963 Whirlpool Imperial dryer to gas, would the 25,000 btu burner work or would it have to be the 37,000 btu burner?

Hi Sean, the 25,000 BTU burner would work, but your dryer was meant to have a two level 20,000/37,000 BTU burner 25,000 would be enough to dry clothes but would modify the dryers design a little bit but it would work.

You would need to make some modifications to the thermostats the modulating burner dryers held the exhaust temperature around 165° and relied on the tapering down of the heat because the heat never cycled off during the heat portion of the cycle

Maybe I might look into converting my 1963 Whirlpool Imperial dryer to gas one day but I’ll have to see. One thing I wish I could find is a booster fan like the older Whirlpool dryers had in the early 50’s but I am not sure if it would work on the newer style of Whirlpool 29” dryers from the early 60’s since the fan would have to have a spindle to connect to but would be in the way of the belt tensioner and would have to have a piece cus made to the belt groove and spindle for the fan to screw on.
