There were so many small makers of refrigerators prior to WWII. I bought a Majestic fridge last year mainly because I have never seen one in person. I got it to run, but it needs a charge of so2. It's definately on my list to restore since I also collect radios.

Grunow used there own refrigerant known as Careen, I believe it was methyl chloride.

Carrene. Its either methyl chloride or methylene chloride and I don't have my shop books handy right now. The Grunow system worked in vacuum, they advertised it was safer because in the event of a leak the refrigerant wouldn't leak out and poison the occupants of the residence.
In the 1920s the Grigsby-Grunow-Hinds company made Majestic radios and refrigerators. They sold expensive console radios like hotcakes in the late 1920s, expanded their factory... and went bankrupt during the Depression. William Grunow set up General Household Utilities, who made Grunow radios and refrigerators.
And I don't any of these yet but I think I need them.
